Guitar Hero needs to dump Gibson and get EBMM instruments. The one thing that would really make me seriously consider getting a gaming system would be GH with an EBMM-style guitar controller. Generally, I don't really care to have GH, but an EBMM controller would definitely make me want to have it.

Goodness Rob, the one place I never want to see an EBMM is as a GH controller! That's like seeing your beautiful girlfriend mud wresling.

By the way, it turns out that it was Activision that filed the lawsuit with the court asking them to overturn Gibson's patent claim which was made in a letter to th company.

Edit: after further thought I have changed my mind about the mud wrestling :)

I'm with you Rob....I hope the Gibson license ends. EB is already in the door with both GH and RB, so it would be cool to see an Axis or AL shaped guitar with our favorite signature headstock. I still haven't bought GH, but I might if the controller changed....the guys on this forum are the ones that softened my position from 'I'm a purist and GH is stupid as hell' to 'Ok, if it even gets one kid to learn the real thing, it's worth it...'

The other angle on this is that it might actually help people to realize that EBMM makes guitars - and cut down on the 'you bought a what?' questions I am constantly getting...

EBMM basses were used in GH 2. Of course not as a controller, but the animated bassist used one in the game.

Back in the recesses of my memory, I think Gibson waited around too long to patent the actual body shapes. They tried to sue a Japanese maker (who was of course making a better instrument) and lost because they'd let too many people make a similar shaped guitar (single cutaway). Of course, those Chinese companies had tried really hard and somehow made a poorer quality guitar than the Gibson so it didn't matter.

What Gibson minded was loosing sales to a lesser expensive, better quality instrument.

What Gibson CAN sue over is the use of their name. A lot of these GH controllers have Gibson plastered on them.

I believe GH could still use a single cut design for the controller and maybe even the Explorer body shape, just as long as they change ever so slightly the headstock shapes.

OK Philip first off this isnt a gibson bashing thread. I am going to start standing up for peoples ability to express themselves as long as they dont bash it into the ground. I would say it is more of an activision hijack with some Gibson sprinkled in

It is ok to say you dont like so and so guitar....I dont like when they are schoolyard comments like "they suck"...but it is funny that we now have armchair mods that feel that it is innappropriate for others to express their opinion.

Gibson has a litigous history. Gibson at times has made gujitars in my opinion that didnt live up to their price. Gibson is a brilliant company that is really marketing and branding off the charts.

I know too much on this subject and really have to stay on the sidelines due to conflict....We are in gh4 and 5.....

Radrock The bowling industry is making us look like idiots.....Instead of bitching and moaning and elitist comments regarding wii bowling they went after the wii crowd and bowling is on a HUGE upswing........Why people cannot see the benefits is why we are sucessful...,They see worthlessness and I see opportunity

This means that bowlers are more intelligent that guitar players.

It's really not such a far-fetched idea, if you think about it.

bowlers are right in between guitarists and bassists

Not much of a marketing kinda guy, are you BP. Over here you're supposed to make us guitarists feel superior. Likewise, you can say whatever you want to those fat string folks on the other side. ;):p

Poppa, sorry if I personally came off as being one of the "schoolyard" kids. Gibson's litigious history is what annoys me about them. I couldn't care less for the guitars, personally. They've just never really felt right to me. They've just never really had the sound that I've wanted, but that's okay. Different strokes for different folks. I bought from someone else. Of course, now, I buy from you, and that's okay too. I'm just irritated that Gibson sued someone else.
