Gibson sues Guitar Hero

I remember back when playing guitar was cool and guitar karaoke would have been thought a joke.

yeah seriously, when did "air guitar" like GH or Rock band become cool? It's kinda like the Dungeons and Dragons crowd decided to "rock out" from their parents basement and into the living room.

I wish I could get Sirius in my neck of the woods. I cannot listen to the radio here as every station plays the same top 40 garbage - I would happily pay $14 a month!

How anyone can sue somone for advertising them for free is beyond me. If anything Gibson should pay activison!

I assumed they were!

I mean I can't imagine someone walking through a game shop and going "woah, they have Gibsons in Guitar Hero - im going to have to buy that!"

More likely some of the millions of Guitar Hero players might decide to take up guitar themselves, some of which will buy Gibson.

Exactly how I feel. I have it right now because I do like the variety for long trips - and I was able to swing a half price deal for a year. When it's done, it's done. The regular price is just too high for the quality (or lack thereof). Most of the channels sound like they're running at 32kbps...

I don't think Beth is in High School and I know you're not. Tyler is probably the only high schooler with as many EB guitars as you.

GH is just a natural progression of the karaoke idea. I wish I had thought of it. I like the way it exposes kids to classics that to us seem like 'old friends'. If the game exposes kids to Sabbath and Living Colour instead of The Killers, I'm all for it!! (I better make a disclaimer that there's nothing wrong with The Killers. I don't want them to come hunt me down. OOOOHHH. They'll kill me.)

Truthfully Lefty, I used to think the same thing - but think about it. Do you think our calling it stupid is going to help convince these kids to try the real thing? If anything, that attitude will just make them view *us* as the guitar queer-o's. We'll be more successful at converting them to our 'religion' if we're on their side...

This is very, very true. I was skeptical of this notion at first, but we have had so many new students and parents cite Guitar Hero as THE reason for wanting to learn guitar. It's interesting that my biz has grown somewhat as a direct result of GH and I've never even played it. We're curious what Rock Band will do because we're doing just fine with guitar and bass, but drum instruction has been way off for a good while. Anything that gets people to pick up the real instrument for the first time is a good thing...
