Looks like a fun time. Any idea if Cowpilot or Railhead are gonna have gigs around Christmas this year?

I'm sure Railhead will have some that time of year. The only one on the calendar right now is a company Christmas party at the Texas Motor Speedway club. We played it last year for about 500 people.

We'll no doubt be playing at that same place in the photos. For reasons I can't ascertain, other than....

a. we play for the door so the bar doesn't have to pay us and
b. the bartender is the owner's daughter and thinks Chris is hot.....

...they keep asking us when we're coming back. I think we signed up for a few more dates last night, but I wasn't paying careful attention because I was loading the PA into my car. Oh yeah, another reason:

c. our bar tab is usually bigger than our paycheck.

Thanks Larry. Just PM me an address as the date gets near. I'll find a way to crash it. :D

Hey 82Daion - Not sure how many noticed your post. These guys usually get caught up in one big love fest around here. Anyway, not to worry, I'm pretty sure that everbody's first gig didn't go perfect. In fact, it would be kind of neat to start a thread about everone's very first gig, I'm sure there would be some great stories.

Let me just tell you this, my first gig payed 50 cents a piece ( next gig payed a dollar a piece and we thought we were on our way to the big time) and I was playing a $15.00 Sears Silvertone guitar. So in conclusion, I would have to say that you are off to a way better start than me as evidenced by your double H Bongo 4. I'm 58 years old and just became the proud owner of a Bongo double H 4 two months ago.

troublemaker.

BTW: When am I gonna be able to order some EB strings from you, Steebo?

Soon, soon, very soon. In heavy stocking/restocking mode right now and fundage is short. Just paying off Dale for doing all the work on the VBTC website to add EB strings to it and I'm a cash & carry guy only so I don't get in anything that's not paid in full upfront.

Very admirable business model. As I'm sure you will, let us know when the store gets stock.

No problemo! I'm sure I could sneak a couple of guys in since my lead guitar player is one of the VPs for that company. ;)

Sweet!

Seriously tho'. I'm gonna be in Austin for the Christmas holidays. Probably from the Dec. 20th to Jan. 3rd. Would love to have a gathering if possible.

Thanks:eek:

The soundman left the stage monitors off, left the guitar out of the mix, and mixed the bass so high that it nearly brought our high school's gym down. It was not a great start, but the audience loved it, so hey. Whatever.

Here's one from my recent, disastrous first gig

First gigs are almost legally required to be disastrous. I don't remember much about mine except I was mostly recruited because I could sing, which seems pretty laughable now, believe me.

Last night, when those photos I posted were taken, our first two sets felt pretty disastrous to me. I thought we were really stinkin' up the joint, and said as much to our guitarist. He said, "Really? I thought the second set was GREAT."

I only mention this because your idea of disastrous might not be how everyone else saw it. Or, you know, it might be, but you're young, and there will be other gigs and you'll kill.

I'm pretty sure you will. Keep rockin', buddy.

Eww!

Reminds me of the time I was in high school, and my band was playing on stage in the packed auditorium that held 675 people...

The curtain opens, band starts playing... I have no sound... panic ensues.
Turns out to be a little patch cable between two pedals that went bad. Unfortunately it took me about 30 full seconds to find it and bypass the problem. But it felt like an eternity up there, and the look of terror on the faces of my bandmates makes me laugh when I think about it now!
