so my first gig in about a year was tonight. i was kinda nervous to be honest. Ive old had 4 practices with the band (joined 2 weeks ago) and, i dunno about you guys, but learning 14 original songs in 2 weeks was overwhelming ... plus besides learning the roots i had to "plan" out where to throw in my flavor.

so anywho ... the show went great. we had free booze all night which was awesome. while drinking before the show our lead guitarist and i had a rock-paper-scissors match to see which one of us would get to take the long run (almost a solo) in our 2nd song. i won and i just went for it ... handt even tired it before, and I nailed it. looked into teh crowd and saw some cool reactions

so im happy. been a good weekend ... had a gig, got my own apartment and worked out a cool axe trade deal :)

Way to go!

I don't get to play out as often as I'd like to - heck don't get to play out often at all, so I know what it feels like to sweat through the prep and hope for the best.

Sounds like things went real well for you - congrats! :)

Doing well makes us improve. Good job and from now on it may be just fun without seeming like a job.

I never had any doubts about your ability to perform myslef.

Glad you had fun..

Way to go, Phatduckk!

Nothin better than looking out over the crowd and seeing them get into it, too.

Let me know if you have a mail list and I'll check you out next time I'm travelling through.

so my main issue is that my picking had craps. this constituted about 75% of my nervousness ... this is kinda my mini-secret. so ya ... my picking hand craps solid to the point where i cant hold the pick anymore. usually the crap comes, then with some rest it goes away and stays gone till the next session. problem is that i usually cant rest my hand during a gig :) LoL ... i swap to finger picking a few times a gig in order to avoid the cramping. if i space out switching from fingers to pick correctly i can avoid teh crap from happeneing at all.

i think the crap starts b/c ill have a deathgrip on the pick. but its hard to not have a deathgrip when im all into and "in the zone" ...

anywho ... all went well and i really appreciate the support from my EB bretheren. u guys/gals rule (insert plug for open house here :)
