I'm by no means an expert on the three-finger technique, but I can tell you that I heavily rely on my bridge pickup as a ramp for doing that thing. If there's a big gap between my fingers and the instrument, it won't happen for me. BTW, for years I've been trying to play this thing cleanly (very frustrating!):

As you know I'm no good at reading music, but give me the bpm and I'll have something to humble myself with when I think I can actually play...

You can download a great (free) metronome here. Just set it at 273 and you'll get the idea.

Alvaro, you know what? I'll start with the metronome at maybe 90 or so, and I'll increase maybe 5-6 bpm each week, and I'll play that intro like it ain't no thang in, let's see, less than a year. Yeah, that's the way to go!
Or maybe I'll just pretend i have too many songs to learn, and just forget it
