Has anybody had a good or bad experience buying from a seller here on the forum? Any advice? I found what looks like a fair deal but I am leary about this kind of purchase. What would be things to ask to make sure I'm not being scammed?

references. I've had nothing but good experiences purchasing from the forum. Saved myself a ton of cash in the process. Gotta love that!

I'd check the number of posts. If it's obvious they post a lot here then I'd doubt there would be a problem. References from transactions on this and other forums or as an ebay seller are always good to have as well. Paypal is good for protecting both parties as well. Don't use the gift option unless you feel very comfortable but in general I would stay away from that.

I bought my 2012 JP6 PDN off a forum member. I'm in Australia and i purhcased it from the USA. I got it sent over and i was extremely happy with the guitar. I got heaps of photos sent over and was happy with the condition of the guitar, and i received it in fantastic condition. Very happy with my secondhand forum purchase!

I bought a guitar from a member of this forum a few years back, extremely smooth transaction! I sold a pickguard here a while ago, and that went well also.

Not just buying guitars , hang around, get to know fellow forumites, all kinds of great things happen!

Buying here is a low risk if you have a seller which hangs around a lot ... Most do...

Can't remember any problems

As spud said, hang around here and great things happen. Most of us came in touch here with people who have the same passion/obession virtually or real

Bought twice here. Amazing experiences.

As others have said, hang around and you'll see how everyone behaves and acts around (and gain confidence)...

I sold a guitar here once, to a new member. The transaction went very well. I asked him to stick around and get to know us but he was not interested. Eventually that guitar wound up in Australia to a fellow forumite. Small world.

I've never purchased via evilbay but I've heard good and bad. Feedback is key.
I'd say, if you want to buy from here, slim chance things will go wrong. We are all in it for the spreading of joy of EBMM's.

Romania ...that's a country ...in Europe :))
I bought my Luke here from Sweat and all I can say the man was beyond my buyer expectation :))
lots of emails, details, solutions for shipping he even accepted to buy 2 dimarzio cliplocks and an EQ pedal for me, being cheaper in US than EU.
sent him the money on paypal for guitar and the goodies :)) and all was great.
It's been 2-3 years since than, but I haven't forget, thank you very much once again Sweat :)

I'm new here too.

What I would do is this:

check their feedback here.
check their eBay feedback - if possible.
talk to them on the phone
check them out on other forums

I plan on trading here once the one month restriction goes (6 days I think). I plan to send out the guitar - wait for them to receive it - THEN I'll send mine - just so they're comfortable. I will also direct them to my flawless eBay transactions and feedback from the Guitars Canada forum. I also purchased a gweetar off TGP recently under the same handle of Klon Solo and got a very decent comment/rating.

I find honest transaction done through a forum are a lot less stressful than eBay.

I have bought and sold quite a few times via the forum and had nothing but great experiences. I try to and everyone I have bought from has always been very forthcoming with A) other forumites contact details for referneces for smooth transactions and B) Ebay ID to check other feedback. I have bought and sold via paypal and bank transfer and never had a problem.

I have never had a problem here on these boards. the best advice is to chat over the phone if you are unsure about anything. It helps sometimes clear any details that need to be answered.

I've bought several guitars from forum members and each time it has been a flawless and enjoyable experience. It's no guarantee I know so common sense still has to play a large part but I'd rather buy from a forumite than ebay.

This is where the forum as a community benefits everyone. Being an active forum member gives people a chance to get to know who you are. And you get to know who they are too. Whether you are buying or selling, the longer you have been around and actually contributed to the life of the forum the more likely you are to be trusted.
