good practice amp

The Roland cubes make a lot of sense...compact,cheap,decent sound, and a great choice of power...really easy to transport, lots of different sounds..solid state..bulletproof,and a no brainer.

Hi Gio,

I just saw a cool amp on the Guitar Center site. I've never seen it before, but it may fit your bill:

40 watts of power and it's a small combo with a 1x12" speaker...

Marshall Haze MHZ40C 40W 1x12 Tube

GLP: $679.98

The format and versatility of the 1x12 40W Marshall Haze combo makes it the perfect partner for guitarists looking for a gig-worthy compact workhorse with enough features, power, and tone capabilities to handle a wide variety of situations. With its EL34 power stage and ECC83 powered preamp, this portable 40W combo has been designed to deliver to the guitarist's expectations through the power and feel of its valves. Laid out in a top-loaded format, the Marshall Haze sports 2 distinctive footswitchable channels. The warm emulated spring reverb has its own independent control, allowing you to add in as much or as little reverb as required. The warm emulated spring reverb has its own independent control, allowing you to add in as much or as little reverb as required.

I picked up a Blues Jr in June and am really liking it. I usually set it just barely breaking up, and use my overdrive pedal for dirty sounds.

I've got a Roland VGA-5 coming in the mail.........they don't make them anymore, but man is it a sweet sounding amplifier...tone is unreal, plays like a dream, reacts like a real amplifier. For now, I will mic it if I need to get louder in a stage setting. Makes my Line 6 Spider III 212 sound like I am listening to a mic'd volume of some cheap headphones coming out of my computer. Line 6 Spider III for sale.

On par w/ the Blues JR's is the Carvin V16.
Loves pedals, has 16w and 5 watt modes, verb, TMB.
They now make a head version too, that and a small 1x12 would kick....
Used $$'s are ~ $200 - $300 depending on the condish.

Also, the Tech 21 Trademark 60 is a pretty versatile amp and weighs in around 35 lbs.

I just picked up a Fender Mustang III. It sure sounds good to my ears. I A/B'd the 65 Princeton model to my Reissue 65 Princeton and it's very, very close in sound, and almost there in feel. Biggest difference is that I can get way more sounds out of the Mustang than the 65 reissue. The biggest plus for me is being able to turn it down really low and still get pretty good tone or use headphones. Built in effects are also really nice, but the coolest thing is being able to plug into a computer via USB and get presets or create your own.

Nice package for under $300!

So - did gforce ever pick-up the practice amp he was looking for? what was it?, what do you think? This is a great topic - one most of us guitar players struggle with - having the ability to use your great sounds and be as mobile as possible for various rehersals......often with various bands of various styles (Ahhh!). Love it.

I really agree to that. I also bought one last week and I´m very glad about it. Especially the Fender sounds are very close to the original ones. It´s real easy to dial in good sounds in a few minutes. The Mustang III has 100 W and a 12" speaker, but it´s possible to play it on a real low level or with headphones. I had some modellers before, especially from VOX, but this amp is the best I ever heard in the modelling line. For the low price a real deal. You can use it as a practice amp but also for playing live or as a backup for your live setup. Enough power for a club.

But to say it clear: it´s not able to beat up my JTM 45 clone, these are really two different worlds, but also when you look at the price. So when you need a good practice and live amp for less money, check out the Mustang III.

Hey guys what is a good amp that i can bring back and forth to practices , I live on a third floor and carrying my yamaha dg80 is just getting to heavy to carry to practices . Im playing for different people and cant leave an amp anywhere.
any input on something that is a good sounding amp thats not to heavy that will pair well with Y2D and a Luke.
any suggestion would be helpful also dont want to spend too much on one. i will still use my good heavy amps for gigs though. bringing it my amp up 3 floors just about killed me tonight especially since i was trying to be quiet too and not bother the neighbors.
