Yesterday I picked up a (I believe to be) passive SUB5. I wanted to see if 5 strings were right for me without putting up too much scratch and this bass definitely fits the bill. The construction seems to be top notch and the action is nice and low without buzzing. The painted neck actually seems faster than the neck on my Bongo, which surprised me.
I know basses don't exist without pics, so here goes:
SUB5 on the left and Bongo HH-4 on the right.
I do have a couple questions though; if there is no battery compartment on the back then it is definitely passive, right? I don't need to remove the banana plate to replace the battery I'd imagine which leads me to believe my SUB5 is passive.
Second, what is supposed to come with the bass? I know it doesn't come with a gig bag or hard case (although my dealer did throw in a free gig bag), but should it come with bridge adjustment wrenches? Should I have received some sort of warranty card to fill out and send in? I registered online here, but I was wondering if all I should've received was the bass itself and nothing else.
Anyway, I've been playing this thing all last night and this morning and this bass totally rocks! I've been switching around the cable music channels and playing along with whatever comes on so I can get used to moving around on a 5 string. I'm surprised it's been pretty easy so far. I still will finger one string and pluck another one occasionally when I'm up on the D or G strings but other than that this bass is quite easy to play!
