Got it at 6PM, just came up for air. God I love a production SR4HH. Especially one of those attackier ones.

Love them natural rays...but it doesn't have the same 'awesomeness' the BFR did...

But pretty darn Awesome!

I know what you mean Zak, but for me, this one is even more awesomer. As far as SR's go, nothing I've tried is as dead-on for me, expressively/tonally, as the sound of production SR4/maple. Maybe it's just because I played nothing but that (your Autumn Redrise, actually!) for over 6 years. I can see and hear why many people say the 30th is the best SR4 ever, and certainly the same will be said about the Redwood BFR. And there's no "right" or "wrong" about it. This stuff is entirely subjective. But for me, no other SR4 does it like the production SR4, and that's actually a great testament to it.

All that said, I still haven't tried a 20th SR5.

And all this pertains specifically to SR's. My brief experience with Bongo's so far, on the other hand, leads me to believe that the Bongo 4HH I'm waiting for now will soon become my numero uno

Just glad you've found your thang. I've yet to own a bongo but I'm pretty sure when I do, it will be my numero uno.

Robert how would you compare the bongo HH to your Stingray HH?

The Bongo 4 HH is on the way, should get it around the end of this month. But I've had a Bongo 5 HH before. They're really very different in terms of both tone and haptics - how it feels & plays. The Bongo's truly a different animal. Not too surprising considering some of the differences:

a different body wood (basswood)
a hot-rodded and VERY different preamp/eq design
neodymium pole pieces in the pickups (and maybe other pup design differences - not sure)
different pickup placement
a different neck profile

I'm almost tempted to say that between a Ray & Bongo HH, the only common denominator is that they're both HH. But that's not entirely true, of course. As I remember Jack saying before, when you hear a Bongo, you know it's in the EBMM tonal family, but it's like a cousin with very distinct individuality.

To me, the Bongo tone is bigger, fuller and more refined, whereas I think of the Ray tone as more raw and unhinged (in a good way). Maybe the proof of the "common ancestor" is the fact that while they have distinct differences, they both have that characteristic EBMM range from edgy & aggressive to soaring and clear.

That's the best I can do on an empty stomach. Time for lunch!
