Has anyone here ever done this? It looks like it requires installation of a small preamp board and battery, and with such a small control cavity on my Axis, I thought it would be best to see if anyone here has made it work before placing an order.

Products&Ordering - Graph Tech

So, what I am looking for is people with experience installing this particular unit in their Axis. What I am HOPING to avoid is having to modify the control cavity size.

Thanks!

Have to admit that I wouldn't bother.
I've never ever been impressed with Piezo on guitars.
Piezo on acoustic guitars is such a fake sound.

What are you requiring this for?

Have you tried splitting the coils on you're Axis?
I've done it - great sound.

Really opens up the clean sounds and added dimension.

Hmm...not really looking for opinions in this case...just people who may have attempted (successfully or not) this installation.

I would have thought that you would struggle to fit it in there. I was going to mod the electronics on my axis but gave up when I realised how big the cavity wasn't. could you contact the manufacturer and get dimensions of the board?

I am waiting on a reply from them. Just thought it would also be worthwhile to check to see if anyone here has tried it.

I've played an install on an Axis, it was great. And yes, I did have the system in my Morse.

The acoustic tone from the preamp was great. What I didn't like was the saddles- over time I really came to dislike them. They robbed the high-end. That said, the new material they're using is different and supposed to be quite a bit better- I've heard good things about it. Have yet to play it though.

Where you can get the production model piezo, I'd recommend getting that instead. If you want something that's not available, the Ghost is a good option. I have some thoughts about how to wire the preamp a little differently than what they recommend- if you decide to do it, PM me and I'd be happy to share my thoughts.

Thanks Beej. Now we're getting somewhere! Specifically, I am looking into the LB63 licensed Ghost-equipped Floyd Rose bridge that GraphTech is selling now.

Well, this topic/ issue is still "live," if there is anyone out there who has tried this. The install that beej played was on an SS, and I am considering this for a standard Floyd-equipped Axis. Different cavities, so my original question still applies.

Anyone?

I just added the acousticphonic to my Axs

This is awesome. I tried a few different control configurations, but ultimately, I added a volume control. I run the acoustic straight to the board, and the Magnetics to my Guitar amp.

By the way, graph tech guarantees satisfaction, so you can return it before you make any permenant mods to the axis. get it hooked up, and listen to the beauty.

And Graph tech has the lb63 ghost on sale in Chrome and Gold or 179.99 when you buy them direct. I am picking up a second.

Oh well, got 3 more, and this one was in rough shape anyway, and it sounds fantastic...

In addition to more pics, would you care to post some details of your install? I am assuming two output jacks? If not, how did you keep the mags out of the preamp?

thanks!

I want to install the LB63 + acoustaphonic + hexpander so badly on my Silo...got a quote for parts and labor and it was 800 euros (!) here in the Netherlands. I'm just too chicken to try it on my own, need a luthier to do it.
