wow yeah Stratty I'll bet those two green EVH's did bring in some... green. yeah bad pud can't resist. Yeah It seems EBMM has come a long way with their dyes and finishing process as these new ones look amazing! So much 3D effect and depth. Thanks for the great welcome Glen! I saw the green one pop up on the GC site in the Brooklyn store on a Friday night. Then I made the drive down on Saturday and was floored at the difference in the pro pics to the real deal. So I just had to have her! I'm over here in the western part of the state just outside of Springfield. Glad to see another Mass person on the forum here!

You are not kidding about the 3D effect of the hand rubbed finish. My Axis Tribute is green, and when the light hits the top there are shades of gold that are present. The top looks so 3D that I find myself staring at it while I play and I even direct some light toward me to enhance that shimmering effect. I am so, so happy with mine!

I have a 2011 Axis with the older style trem, and the Tribute with the newer style Gotoh and I like the newer one better. The quality of the cast metal is better on the newer unit and it just feels really smooth.

That being said, as soon as I have an extra $300 to drop on Kermit, I'll get him the Floyd Upgrades trem. You guys must think I own stock in that company, but I don't. They are just that much better and it's mainly because the bar has a threaded collar that lets you lock it into place on the fly or just let it dangle. The bar sits at a better angle from the body, too. And, there is an allen wrench inside the tip of the bar, so you always have one handy!

Wow, that's a brilliant idea! It should be possible to order only the trem arm from Floyd Upgrades, I suppose? I might do that in the near future.

Oh that's neat Jack Thanks! Yes I'll keep my eye out in the events section. I'm just starting to explore some of the other threads on this forum.

Yeah Tollie I've been staring at mine too more that I figured I would! hee hee. Although I should be playing it more than staring at it but I still have that "new guitar oogling" phase to get over! he hee. Yeah I agree about the newer Tribute trem. I seems more simple and clean. Although I looked at a red on in NJ and all three nut locks looked like they were ready to start peeling right away but the bridge seemed fine. But obviously those are fairly easy (and cheap ) to replace.

Yeah I also love my original Floyd which I have in another mid 90's guitar which shall remain nameless (good MIJ import co. born on Sunset Strip). I also love how I can adjust the swing of the arm and have absolutely zero play in it for subtle vibratos with no extra rattle noise when playing with no distortion (a la David Gilmour). I haven't really given my new Tribute the trem test just yet.

Warning: the Floyd Upgrades arm is not a suitable replacement on a Gotoh unit. It fits on the old Floyds with the threaded ring around the pop in arm. F.U. makes a larger brass block for the Gotoh Floyd like on the Axis. However, the Gotoh is by far the finest licensed Floyd available, on par with the F.U. (Gotoh is made in Germany). The Gotoh ebmm uses already has a nice brass block. F.U. will just give you one that is HUGE for a more powerful tone. Or, you could opt for the giant titanium one, like I have on my BFR Axis.

The reason I opt for the F.U. is because it says F.U. in big letters where it is usually branded, which is obnoxious if you don't know what it stands for. I find that funny. Second, the hidden allen wrench on the tip of the bar is priceless. And finally, the bar itself: it is at a slightly different angle and closer to the body. It has the threaded ring so you can let it swing freely, or slowly, or you can lock it in place. I love that feature! I also opt for titanium string blocks and a brass spring claw, which you can load onto a Gotoh equipped Axis.

An early Original Floyd Rose is the holy grail, but nowadays they are made overseas and they are of a lower quality.
