Hello to you all, this is my first post. I’m just getting back into playing again after too many years doing other musical stuff – and I’m starting to appreciate my basses even more after reading all the good things on here. Looking forward….

Thanks guys. It's good to be playing again, and feels a lot better than ever before - maybe something about being older and wiser? My current challenge is to stop hitting the wrong string on my 5 when reading! Any tips? Rob, I have many fond memories of Naarwich, went to school nearby... sigh.

Mobay - And very well you do it too if that's you on your home page link.. just that most of my playing has been reading (pit bands and so on) and I've always found it difficult to memorise song structures. Not very rock n roll is it! I'm working on it though.

That wasn't me on the Railhead demo.

You can hear some of my playing if you go to www.farcryband.com. Far Cry is all original so I wrote all of the bass lines you hear there.

I just joined Railhead about 2 months ago and I left Far Cry when I joined the up with them.

Welcome to the forum. Just keep reading and practicing with the 5 string and it will be worked out before you know it.

Hi and thanks.. mdc is just my initials, nothing interesting! The 5 is a Ray from late 80s I think, kind of see-through red with black p/g. My SR4 is a nat fretless again from the 80s -it has a 'B' serial number. Also have a really beat up old jazz and a f/l precision which I played for ages but they're now spares - don't have the feel or sound of the MMs... Yes, the 5 is coming along, I just keep finding the bottom string in the wrong place! I'm sure I'll find loads of advice here.

Thanks for the welcome everyone - feels like home already! Just got in from a gig over in Cambridge - it's now 1.36am but the SR5's new strings arrived by post today so I feel the need to put 'em on right now. When I read the instructions about how to post pics I'll be happy to do it. Now where's the Horlicks......
