Hi,

New to the forum, thought I'd introduce myself. Started playing over 20 years ago. Just over 10 years ago I sort of lost interest, coincided with me starting a 'proper' job. Had a Status 2000 at the time, but got rid of it, as wasn't playing enough. I couldn't bear to be without a bass, so bought a couple of cheap Japanese basses(a fretted and fretless), which languished in the corner for the best part of 10 years. Picked them up one day last year and have been playing pretty much every day since. Mainly fretless, as I have been getting heavily into Pino Palladino and a lot of Jaco. Funny thing is I reckon my chops are better now than back in the day when I was playing for 4 hours a day every day. Weird, I can play stuff with ease now, that I really used to struggle with.

Anyway, took the plunge a couple of weeks ago and bid for a fretless SR4 on ebay. It arrived last week. Wow! What can I say? What a bass. I immediately felt at home on it. It just cries out to be played. The tone is fantastic and so much power from that pickup. I am seriously tempted to get a fretted to join it, trying hard to resist that temptation.

Welcome!

Seems we've traveled a similar path. Started playing casually again about 5 or six years ago after a long layoff. Though things really got exciting and my interest was completely renewed when I discovered my Sterling last year. :D

Enjoy the forum!

Hi, Bassmonkey, and welcome.

I'm so confused.

:D

Hi, sorry, I didn't realise someone else had a similar user name. I'm happy to change it if it will cause problems, it's just I use this one on the Bassworld forum.

Let me know what you think.

Heh. No, keep the user name. I was just making a joke--it certainly doesn't upset me. And, I'm fairly certain that there are "bassmonkey"s everywhere that I am registered as "bassmonkeee," anyway.

Cheers.

What a friendly forum. :)

As regards the pics, the Aussie moderator is going to host them for me, after I get round to emailing a pic. You'll all then be able to pay homage to my new pride and joy. :D

Is there room for two bassmonkey(ee)s on this forum?

Of course there is. We all have a little bass monkey inside of us.

bassmonkey,

Just don't add anything into your signature about eating your brain and we ought to be able to tell the two of you apart. ;)

Perhaps one of you could be more precise. There are many types of monkeys, after all.

1. Bass Howler Monkey would be scary! (I used to get these in my yard.)
2. Bass Squirrel Monkey.....cute, sure, but also will throw feces if provoked.
3. Bass Baboon! Rolls right off the tongue, eh?
4. Barbary Bass Ape* is nice, too.
5. Bass Proboscis Monkey doesn't sound that nice, but hey, for those of you with the larger nose, it could work fine.

Just a thought. We won't really get into the apes, right? Because there are some good choices in the apes, too.

*while called the Barbary Ape, this animal is really a tailless monkey.

I don't know the answer to that but I can tell you that I've heard some coming from him before.

I figured you might say that--ofcourse, what a great set-up;-)
