Okay, so I'm in this typical motown/soul/funk band these days.

That lets me play some really, REALLY cool songs with fantastic bass lines that are just a blast (check out The Temptations' Cant Get Next to You, segue into I Want To Take You Higher from Sly & the Family Stone).

But there are songs that come up which are perfect for the band and the genre, but maybe...a bit bubblegum. Nevertheless, they're right 'cause they're going to get the girls up and jumping.

I must confess that I suggested one of these because I thought it would fit perfectly (and it does). I further confess that I really enjoy playing it.

I Want You Back by the Jackson 5.

Anyone else got any guilty pleasures?

There was a band from East Lansing (where I grew up) called 19 Wheels that were super bubble gum syrupy pop/rock. They broke up years ago but I still listen to them. And my dad still makes fun of me for it.

mine can't be written down in a public place :D

But I do enjoy the old motown tune here and then, "You Can't Hurry Love" being one of them as an encore followed by "She Caught the Cady" by the Blues Brother (yes its got Duck Dunn on bass, you've mentioned him earlier) but I find bliss playing early Jeff Beck songs anything from the "Wired" album

Truly one of the greatest albums of all time.

I've never played any motown. Shame, because Midnight Train would be a lot of fun to play (especially if I get to dance like a Pip - Hoo Hoo). ;)

My band plays our own version of "I Kissed a Girl" by Katy Perry...and I'll admit it's pretty fun to watch the chicks freak out.

We'll then follow it up with "Aeroplane" by the Chilli Peppers so I can regain some of my dignity... slightly.:p

Come on Eileen.

Never played it live though, just at practice.

I hope to never play it live. Fun song anyway!

Trippy you should mention this song. I've been jamming to this one the last couple of weeks. I'd learned it years ago and it just came to mind again when looking for something fun to play. 'I Want You Back' is fun to play!

no :)

im saying i love level42.. afaik they are british ;)

MrM

ps: kerr is what dentists use to make fake gums.. you know the flesh colored substance that holds the "new" fake teeth in place.

i never could get that attack mark king could get in his playing so i had to cheat.

i did that by making a ring to put on my thumb so the string was hit by a hard material instead of my soft thumb.

kerr is a 2 component mix which gets hot while it hardens.. i found that out the hard way..

hehe.. imagine this:
clearing the table, putting up the ingredients.. mixing it up while whistling happily thinking about how fast and furious the playing would be :)
then taking out some of what for the time beeing is a paste and putting it on your right thumb.
you start to shape it into a smooth ring, making sure it looks as good as it ever gonna get.. nice smooth edges, slick surfaces.. hehe..
it looks almost as cool as yourself, sitting there in your best 80ies outfit with torn jeans, high hair (or in my case big hair) and biiiig glasses. now, some of you might say a 4 eyes cant be cool anyway.. well i thought i was ;)

so the thing starts to harden.. and it gets warm.. and warmer.. and warmer untill the point where i suspect it will catch fire soon if i dont do anything.

so there i am, running around franticly.. the hair bobbing from side to side.. the pant ripping more as the holes catch edges on tables and chairs. and it gets hotter.. and hotter and then some more!

now the plastic is hardened so much i cant get it off my finger, so what i figure is smartest is putting the finger under water while someone finds a knife to cut it open..

cpl of minutes later the ring is cut loose, my finger red as a lobster and im an experience richer..

morale of the story?
boy did the slapping sound good... when i could play 1 week later ;)
