Hello All !

Next month, my wife, two kids, two dogs, myself, and 6 guitars (7 if.......I mean when my Rolls Burgundy mm90 AL arrives:D ) are moving to Las Vegas and I am wondering how to keep my guitars from experiencing any major issues. Since I will be moving from the lovely NY humidity to Nevada where it barely exists, is there anything I should do to my guitars before we drive across country? Remember, heading to Vegas in July will be brutal, heat wise, so.....(I know it's not the smartest time to move there but several factors came into play; the most important being the birth of my 2nd son this past January.)

The guitars are coming with me and will be in the backseat of my car until we arrive at different hotels where they will reside inside with the rest of us :D

I am going to call the excellent folks at the EBMM customer service dept. for tips as well, but since everyone here is truly knowledgeable, I will listen to any words of wisdom.

All replies are appreciated,

Rich

the safest thing is to leave them in the case....strung to pitch...& keep them from getting any extended periods of direct sunlight.
the move is no big deal @ all. the most important thing is not to let them get overheated........or stolen.
u will probably need setups once u been there 4 a while......
if u don't have humidity control @ yer new dwelling.........u will need more info on fret sprout later......
consistant 45% to 55% is what they love.
good luck w/ yer move !!!!!

Thanks for the info

I figured on needing setups because of the new environment for the guitars but I did not think of the humidity control. I have to check that out.

I'm planning on having them in the car for about 9 hours at a time, as long as my guitars are not in the trunk, everything will be groovalicious

I'd add that you should definitely rent BREAKDOWN before the drive.

About guy and his wife driving across the desert to their new life and things go very wrong. Many twists and one of the great underrated action movies.

Make sure they dont overheat, I had a problem moving from LA to NY and the pups and pickguard melted, so be aware that intense heat can melt stuff, but if they are in your car they will be fine, mone was left in a car that was shipped back on a flat bed, and it was in a gig bag but the intense heat melted the guitar-

That must have been quite an unwelcome surprise when you unzipped that gig bag

A good general rule of thumb with guitars is never put them through anything that you wouldn't put yourself through, i.e. sitting in a hot car, in extreme cold...
