Hi all ,
I 'm thinking about purchasing a guitar processor (down to Boss GT 10 ,Digitech GNX 3000 or GNX4 or the Zoom G TT 9)
Just wondering if those of you that have used one or have one might be able to fill me in on pros /cons.
I,m strictly a recreational player jam once in a blue moon with buddies (nothing serious).
Sounds I,m after include 80,s rock/metal ,Satriani Vai , VanHalen and practice loop would be a plus.
All input would be appreciated.
Thanks ,
Lee:D

I'd shoot for the GT-10 if I was going to go the multi-effects route. Just be warned that the all-in-one units are sometimes 'good at everything' but 'great at nothing'. I've not heard the GT-10 first hand but the distortion is usually very lackluster to my ears. Patches can be a pain sometimes as well with them being at different volumes, bad naming, hard to program, etc. For the money you could buy several used BOSS pedals and have full quality effects you can turn on and off individually. This is just my .02 !

If you're lucky, you might be able to try some of these units out to get a feel for each and compare... Good luck!

The GT really excells at effects and versatlity, that is the strong point of that unit. Their amp modelling is considered one of the weakest though.

Line 6 has some very good amp modeling on their new stuff. I got a POD X3 Live a few months ago and it's one of the best effect units I've used.

I like the Boss products, have owned a GNX-4 nice unit with built in recorder but hard to program,at least for me it was, had a GT-8 great unit, but I just bought the GT-10, still learning the in's and out's of it but very nice so far and a lot easier to use as well.

I've personally never liked the Boss stuff.
I would recommend the POD X3 Live though.

Well, since you brought it up, I dig Digitech processors(minimally) and Boss pedals (minimally) and vintage hand wired amps (built by myself)...solid state amps sound sterile to me.... all tubes is the way to go.

I have the GNX4 and for an "all in one" it works really well. It has plenty of built-in presets, is user programmable for your custom presets, and too many other features to mention.

The recorder uses a 2GB compact flash and you can record all 8 tracks @ 48 min per track, 6 tracks @ 64 min per track, 4 tracks @ 96 min per track.

GNX4 all the way man. I have a library of every sound (ever). It sounds great. It also has that 8 track recorder, looper, MP3 player (huge feature) drum machine, mic preamp, line it.

Honestly, my last gig. One EBMM, one GNX4, one powered EV wedge. ONE TRIP FROM THE CAR. I dominated.

**** Piezo plugs right in

Actually, I own 2. Have one for backup. I'm doing a theatre run this summer with ONLY the GNX4 and my AL and JP6

I've owned them all Vox, Line6, Boss. They all sound good; really. This one just have the most flexibility.

I like the Boss GT8. It can take some work to create really outstanding patches (or some time to download and evaluate other people's patches!), but it is pretty versatile. The thing is, it *is* possible to get some great sounding tones from it. It just takes a little more work than a set of stomp boxes. I haven't tried the GT10 yet, but I've heard unsubstantiated rumours it's a little easier to use.

I do have the Pod X3 and it works great as a desktop application. USB recording and PC editor are sweet. I don't use it with an amp so didn't feel the need to mention it before.

I haven't heard the Nova System yet but you generally can't go wrong with TCE products. But there hard to find here in Canada or so I've been told by a local music store owner as they don't have a very large distribution network here. It took me 2 months to buy my delay from a dealer online, and even they had to special order it.

I've also heard very positive things about the Digitech RP500. Less expensive than the GNX4 and much more improved over the RP350 which I have.

Tonelab LE

Dont forget to have a listen to the Vox Tonelab LE. I've used a Boss GT8 ( 18 months ) Digitech GNX300 ( 6 weeks ) Pod XT desktop and XTLive ( 18 months ) both in the studio and at regular, 2/3 night a week gigs with my duo and have recently been heavily impressed with the Vox Tonelab LE floor unit.

Out of all the units, this baby sounds the most organic, warm and natural, maybe because it actually uses a 12ax7 valve in the preamp stage. It doesn't have as many bells n whistles as the other options but what it does, it does extremely well.

Ive also added a Radial Tonebone Classic ( 12ax7 valve fuelled ) in the "Insert" stompbox loop of the TLLE to drive the amp models and have to say it rox , even Luke recommends this little baby.

With those choices I'd go with the GT-10. If you're looking for something more, then what's the top end of your budget?

I mostly play at home, some regular jams as well. ( gigs when I have the time). I can PM you some other ideas, I don't want this to create some sort of ad thread for a non EBMM product.

If you're interested PM me.

Good luck in your choice.

I've had a Digitech RP-2000 and a GNX2. Liked them well enough but the pedal spacing was a bit narrow for my feet. I'd often hit two pedals when I needed to hit one, and that causes different functions to happen than what you intended! It used to frustrate the hell out of me. Some of the other brands are closely spaced, too. Check your stomp before you buy!
