If you're at all interested in considering something that's beyond the L6, Boss, Digitech, etc., look into the Fractal Audio Axe FX. Not only does it offer world-class effects (on a level with Eventide), but the amp sims are so convincing that many Axe FX have stopped using their tube amps.

The forum is here: Axe-FX :: Index

Product info at Fractal Audio Systems

I've had one since last October, and have totally lost interest in other amps.

I have. This is exactly why I asked him what his budget was. :D

Nova System if you've got the cash. It's a lot of money but awesome. Looks great, too!

Not a fan of Digitech. Never have been.

If you don't need amp models and just want effects, look into Line 6's new M13.
Line 6 - Stompbox Modelers

interesting!! this is just the sort of thing i've been wanting. although if the Pod X3 Live is anything to go by, wait until the bugs have been ironed out!

I bought an X3 Live and sold it after 2 days it was a piece of junk.. how they let it out of the factory with so many bugs in the firmware i'll never know. And for me, those types of units just don't work. I do too many different types of gigs. The whole notion of 'presets' just doesn't work for me.

That's why something like the M13 would be perfect (IF it works)... be interested to hear some reviews once it's out.

Problem is, ofcourse, line 6 stuff is horrendously expensive over here!

really, they are ALL good enough for 98% of us. Each one is actually used by pros who make a living playing. Each one has a basic level and a "comfort" level only achieved by spending time and seriously bonding with it. None are perfect and none of them are slouches. I could be happy with each and every.
Fact is, I spent the last 2 years with the GNX4 and really got to know it. NOW, I trust it because I know what I can and can't do with it. I've played in many different situations so I know where and how it blends and what patches sound great alone but ****E in company. Many people live by a "instant gratification" approache and move to the next vogue pedal way too fast.

I know that I might get flamed for this, but...Now that it has been a year since you guys last had this discussion what are your thoughts? I currently have a GT-6 (how antiquated of me, I know) and I mainly play my BFR JP6 into a computer through a dedicated SPDIF port. How have you guys with the GT-10 and GNX4 faired? Once again, I'm sorry for the bump, but I thought it better to post a reply than post a whole new topic that has been talked about before. Thanks for any input that you guys might have, I always appreciate the wisdom of the Ball forumites.

Yeah, coming back to this revived thread, I have had the TC Nova system for about a month now, after transitioning from the G Major I.

All I have to say is, give this one a shot. I'm dead serious. TC Electronics tones are always pristine and top notch, and now that the Nova system has been out for a while, the kinks and the rough edges have been worked and smoothed out.

I wouldn't use this in place of anything else, except maybe a G System, but even then this Nova system is just as tough and even more portable.

A+!

Digitech stuff is ok, Korg stuff is a little better , but NOTHING beats TC Electronics.
I use TC Electronics G Force, and its just awesome.
Only other digital effects that are on par with TC are stompboxes from Eventide.

Good idea to resurrect this thread.

Effects processor are always is good subject of endless discussion ...
The brand new processors are always full of hype and a few years later nobody remembers them ...
For instance if you read the horror stories on Harmony Central about the G-Sharp you understand that effect processors are like computers : they lose their value really fast.
Just read the article when the launch the product.
And after that the reviews.
In January 2006 the MSRP was 345 $ now you can find it at 125€.

I don't want to do some TCElectronics bashing : it is just an example that shows IMHO that digital processor are not a good investment. At the contrary, I still uses some pedals I bought years ago (my ART Mach II, my ZOOM G2.1u, my BOSS ME30 and Digitech are just collecting dust ... Yes, I also wasted some hard earned cash for processors )

Since I've always had great luck with BOSS and DigiTech, I decided to purchase a GT-10 last night. The crummy part is that while I was playing around with it and trying to learn some of its eccentricities, I noticed a huge drop in my bridge pups volume/tone and some slight crackle. I have since started a thread about this problem (as you might have noticed when you came into the forum today) and will call CS on Monday. So I haven't been able to play around with it very much, but what little I did get to play, I have thoroughly enjoyed!

I have wanted a TCE G-System for the past year, but with everything going on in our economy, I decided not to drop the $1600 on it. Perhaps in a couple more years when this GT-10 is outdated, and I can more readily afford it.

Thanks for all of your advice, believe me it was a harder decision than most people would know! And eventually I WILL[/U] buy a TCE G-system!

There are only 2 products I will use in the multi-effects realm. I use both regularly.

T.C. Electronic G-System
Fractal Axe-FX Ultra

I use the G-System to control the Axe-FX via MIDI and have a relay-switchable A/B box between the two "sides" of my rig so there are 2 completely separate signal chains. Either one of these pieces on its own would be more than enough, though you'd need some kind of controller for the Axe-FX.

I think I'm about done with the Boss stuff too...I had a GT-6 and still have a GT-8. Unfortunately, I just can't get the tones I want, even when pumped through my 1987 JC-120 (which I had heard is the amp that Boss uses as their reference platform when designing new GT units). You can't beat the programmability of the GT series, but I just feel like they suck the life out of my pickups. There's always something missing. It's going on evilbay as soon as I can get around to it.

I recently bought the Line 6 Gearbox/Amp Farm plugin to mess around with recording, and I REALLY like the Line 6 tone - and I'm now considering a POD X3 Live. I'm just not sure how it would sound with the JC. I would love an Axe-Fx, but it's out of my price range for the foreseeable future...

I can confirm that as well regarding boss but the stomp boxes are quality especialy the old ones.
I dont like digitech at all had few of their products and only one comes up to my needs which is the old trusty discontinued Whammy-1.

I never had a chance to try Fractal Axe FX standard/Ultra but i wish!
