Gibson Replaced in Guitar Hero
Gibson took its proverbial ball and went home, but the game is still very much going on.

Activision has announced the instrument and equipment companies that will fill the branding void left by Gibson in Guitar Hero World Tour. After partnering with them for a few years, Gibson decided to sue the owners of the popular game for patent infringement. But not only did that not deter the game maker, but apparently there were plenty of others on the block who wanted to "play."

The lineup of companies from which gamers will be able to grab in-game sponsorship and gear goes something like this: Ampeg, Audio-Technica, EMG Pickups, Ernie Ball, Evans Drumheads, Guitar Center, Krank Amplification, Mackie, Marshall, Orange County Drum & Percussion, Pork Pie Percussion, Regal Tip, Sabian, Vox, and Zildjian.

I know you were in Guitar Hero with the StingRay, but Go Ball, go! :D

What a great way of having product names in the public eye.

I am literally just off the phone to a friend who is online right now looking for guitars for his two sons, who are mad for Guitar Hero.

Indeed Pete; go ball, go! :)

Sweet! Maybe some EBMM guitars? The strings were advertised in the Guitar Hero 3. Now I just need to see the song list...

EDIT: Just found this: rumor song list! http://www.joystiq.com/2008/07/24/rumor-guitar-hero-world-tour-full-set-list/

Some awesome songs, including Hold the Line by Toto and Pull Me Under by Dream Theater! Also has Spirit of Radio by Rush, Hot For Teacher by Van Halen, and Satch Boogie by Joe Satriani... With many other awesome songs!

It's going to be hard deciding between this and Rock Band 2...

Wait a minute, did I see three Tool songs on there? Awesome! Guitar Battle vs. Sting? What the hell?

I am pretty out of it when it comes to video games, I never advanced past the Atari 2600. But what is the deal with Gibson and GH severing relations? It seemed like a smart marketing move linking their guitars with such a pop culture phenomenon.

Pull Me Under is too easy for that game. I'm disappointed...

But seriously, this is gonna be nuts. Finally some nice exposure for DT and EBMM. :p :D

I am sure its a great marketing opportunity, but playing a real guitar is much better!

I agree, but the notation/tab books for Guitar Hero and Rock Band are some of our top selling printed music. People dig it, and if someone gets interested in playing real guitar because of the video game then I can't say enough good things about it!
