nice

Im glad to see im not the only one and that jst by posting this ive insighted some anger.:p lately i thought ok im not gonna stop buying the mags ill just spend the extra 5 bucks and get the bonus DVD full of lessons after all some of them look interesting. for example i got all excited to see the band scale the summit were giving a lesson. they do some cool stuff with cool timings and its all instrumental. their lesson was ok but generally the lessons are horrible for example on the same cd was a "metalcore" lesson. i happen to digg metalcore but the lesson was ridiculas it was like "high my name is xxx from xxx this is my guitar, i use a wierd almost open tuning so you probably cant do what im about to. ok watch me shred, ok heres me shredding slower, ok lesson over weres my paycheck?" and wtf happened to the idea of putting tab on the bottom of these lessons so you dont have to keep pausing then slowering down then pausing your tv. just so you can try and copy the guy on the screen. Its not even lessons so much as people just playing there songs slower and telling you what effects and tunings they use. ps. im not usually this bitter lol:eek:

I had a subscription to GW before I moved last summer and never bothered to tell them about my address change. I Believe the subscription ran out in December but I only got half of the issues. Those issues were terrible. I hate sounding elitist but they just don't know how to print a magazine anymore. 20 pages of ads BEFORE the table of contents? WTF is that? As if that's not enough, two of the half dozen or so I got had advertisements PASTED ON THE COVER.

Guess I learned my lesson. I don't need that kind of stuff shoved down my throat. While I enjoy being informed of new products I don't like it being all promotional crap that hypes up the product without giving it any kind of formal review.

Now if they could parallel a magazine like Sound on Sound for guitarists, that would be amazing. They have very little advertising and introduce products in the form of well written savvy reviews.

I haven't read a new guitar mag in forever, since the price started pushing close to 7 dollars. The good news is, I saved all my old mags, so if I ever want to read one, I just pick up a 5+ year old issue that I've completely forgotten, and it's just like reading a new issue :D.

Original post is spot on.

Premier Guitar magazine is where it is at these days. Nice magazine with awesome web site and video interviews backing/supplementing it. Content is available online as well, and I have emails that come periodically directing me to new articles during the month. It's a good mix of print distribution and an online presence IMHO.

+1
They provide a great look inside the guitar industry which Guitar Player and Guitar World aren't really doing that much.
Their website is really well done too....

I've got about ten years worth of different mags but I stopped getting em in the 90's. Maximum Guitar, Guitar Player, Guitar World. It was nice having all those tabs on hand. But I don't read them anymore.

I just checked out Guitar Techniques and they want $118.00 for a one year subscription!!! Am I missing something here? Does each issue come with a back massage and a happy ending? Has anyone in the States seen it cheaper?

The thing with GW and GP is that subscriptions are cheap enough that I'm willing to subscribe for the price. $12.00 for one year is not bad when newsstand prices are ~4.00 for each issue.
