I'd like to go out playing guitar anyway. That, or sexytime.

Well, I think all the radiations affected your virility since you are playing with 9-42 strings
Joke aside, jvh has opened an interesting thread. I am sure that BP respects the health of his employees and of his customers.
Most of the products we are using every day are in fact full of dangerous components : shampoo for instance. All the cosmetics are full of chemical products (well not in Fbecir house, my wife spends a lot of time making her own products with organic components).
If you look at what we eat ... well it's worst.
Thus it's not your guitar that will kill you, but all the sh*t they put in your food or in your shampoo. Thus buy some organic raw products and prepare your own food ...
I licked my Reflex and I feel fine.![]()
Ok so most would probably consider this a dumb question, but has anyone ever asked the question of the poly that EB is using? I know they recommend gunstock oil for the unfinished necks, but most gunstock oil has some kind of petroleum in it and actually can't be sold in california. In fact mineral oil is a class 1 carcinogen which technically means it is not as toxic, but in reality it would be great to know if you could use vegetable oil, olive or grapeseed oil instead. Most people don't realize how toxic their guitars or even guitar picks are. I was suprised to find out that most guitar picks contain formaldehyde and I think some even contain bpa. I just recently bought an acoustic with the nitro finish and it smells horrible. From my understanding that finish is highly toxic. In fact it will rub off on your skin and you can smell it on your skin. There's another company of electrics that uses this finish and everyones like "ohh this is wonderful it smells like vanilla". Anyways, some people don't see these substances as a threat, but if you look at all the people with cancer and sickness in America maybe you will have a little bit of understanding of toxicity. Toxicity adds up and then people think they are spontaneously sick without realizing the true cause of their sickness. So with that said I know EBMM is in California so maybe they use better lower toxic substances than the others? Anyone have some insight?
Added: One thing I really like about musicman is that I don't get a real heavy toxic smell when opening a brand new guitar case.
It's that nitro smell. Golden Era if that gives you an idea. It's so humid right now that I can't let it air out. Every time I play it my shirt and skin smell like it. Also, when I put my arm over the top of the guitar I see white flakes as you mentioned. I'm assuming the finish is so soft that it's flaking already in that area. In fact it gave me a headache when I first got it so I've been playing it with the fan on or outside right before it got humid.Couple of points. Although MM themselves say "gunstock oil" it isn't what you usually call generic gunstock oil. It is Tru Oil which builds up a pretty solid and hard surface. I have never heard about health concerns around that particular product.
Most nitro paint variants are very hard and brittle and will not just invade your skin. It might flake off, in fact flaking off is the main feature of nitro today (because it makes guitars age "realistically"). But as long as you don't eat the paint chips you are fine.
Can you be more specific about that toxic smelling acoustic?
