If I ever have the chance to go to USA one day, and the opportunity to go to SLO, what is the secret password to enter the vault, except : "Pleeeeeaaaaaaase BP" (down on my knees of course!):):):)

tick.....tick......tick.....please not more talk about 20 years ago....lets stay in the vault and look at guitars.

agreed... However, I would be willing to go out on a limb and say that a few more pics of the content within the Vault would go a long way towards moving the discussion in the right direction. :D

Just trying to keep this alive. It's getting close to Christmas and I'm hoping Santa will deliver.

Adam, a friend of mine has a EB/MM Axis, a Peavey Wolfgang and recently bought the MIJ EVH Wolfgang Special (got it cheap, to flip and make a profit). The Wolfgang Special he said has a flawless finish but that the wood in his opinion isn't of high standard and the guitar sounds sub-par compared to the other two. He likes the Peavey but says the Axis sounds and plays the best of all three and built the best as well. Sure its not the USA EVH Wolfgang, but still he stated for full retail price it wasn't worth it.

Comparing the EVH to the Axis, just going by specs and price alone no way in hell would I pay $3000 for a guitar with a plain maple neck with only the fingerboard being birdseye and not even a German Floyd Rose (from my understanding) when the Axis is $1000 cheaper, better built quality and better woods used.

I've been a VH fan for a long time, and I love Ed's playing. I also feel he's got the right to make money off his name and the success he's had, however there's only 1 place I'd turn if I want (another) EVH-type guitar....

I've never played a new evh model but they look awfully cheap to me. I have a dvd (Phrase by Phrase Van Halen) and the instructor plays a brand new evh. It is a horrible shade of yellow, in that it looks like they were trying to come up with a "vintage white" that's yellowed over the years. But it looks like the color of mashed-up bananas.

It is just awful, and the maple neck is very plain with not much birdseye. I would not pay $1000 for it, let alone $3000. I will NEVER buy one...but I will try out the new evh 5150 III (50 watt half-stack).

I have owned several P.Wolf's over the years, and while I do like them, the ebmm evh and axis feel less clunky and big hanging in front of me. The P.Wolf's body seems bulky. The evh/axis line feels very streamlined in comparison, and the neck shape is much faster. And, the 4-2 headstock is very cool. The transparent tops are another example of the Balls outshining the imitators.

Have you ever seen a Peavey or evh/Fender Wolfgang with a top like this??? No, I thought not!

I own all 3 and I can comment a little bit on this... 1st I am die hard Ernie ball, but these all great guitars with pros and cons. The pv did have some really nice tops, but most were custom shop. They used flame tops to keep the price down. Also keep in mind it has a 15" radius fretboard which should make it feel faster. At least this is one reason players prefer flatter radius aka petrucci. As for f model i agree the tops aren't very good. My understanding on the neck is they use hard maple for durability. I may be wrong, but I've heard the Birdseye is not as durable. Used pricing isn't bad for the benefit of stainless frets...

Well the topic is evh guitars which naturally leads to discussions of evh or evh guitars...

Tollie, is that scrambled egg or some kind of wierd rice? It if it was a little lighter in colour, it would'nt be far off buttercream (like the 2005 LEs).

but I've heard the Birdseye is not as durable

There has been a lot of talk over the years that figured maple of any description is less stable for guitar necks but that's just a myth. Besides, what manufacturer would really reserve their least stable wood for their most special guitars?
