is it safe to hang your guitar? i mean a million guitar stores cant be wrong. i of course have central air and when the furnace runs i have a whole house humidifier. i have a dehumidifier in my computer/guitar room and the humidty in that room is a constant 55 to 60 percent.

Ihave seen too many guitars with badly marked headstocks, chips in the finish, over the years, due to them being hung up by the headstock .

I wont be hanging any of my EBMMs up by the headstock !! no way !!

I'm more of a stand guy myself. Love the stand I've got (I have a 7 and a 3) - all the guitars are physically separated by at the base so there's no chance of rubbing against each other. And it will hold acoustics as well.

and remember to avoid rubber hangars, because they can react (ie. RUIN) with a Nitro finish. You can use leather covers, available at lots of guitar stores.

Always in a stud - Quarter's recommendation works just as well - bottom line is having a secure mounting point.

I prefer the wall to the stand - safer for me.

Hi, just read your post on guitar wall hangers. I am an interior designer, hanging guitars for a client. I am interested in your construction knowledge. Everyone has talked about securing them into studs. (of course) but my concern has been the neck of these hangers. They look to me like they might snap off. Any comments?

Thank you, Michelle

Never had a problem with the hangers snapping off. I used to have my guitars on stands but now that my 16month old is walking, they are up on the wall.
(now I guess I'll need a couple more cabinets to stack up to keep the amp heads out of his reach)

I hang my Egress but only because I never got a case for it. Once I finish my bathroom, I have 2 building projects: Thiele cabinets and a guitar storage/display case that I can put all my axes in. Much better use of space, better protection from dust and humidity control.

Sorry to jump in late, I have a similar question and found this thread through a search. My question is about heavier guitars, does hanging them on the wall weaken the neck pocket at all over time, or are they safe to always hang? It just seems like all the body weight of the guitar is hanging directly below the neck.

Thanks

While I do prefer guitars on a stand, lately it has come to pass that I need to conserve space and keep my guitars out of harms way. So, while most of them are safely tucked away in their cases, I like to keep a couple out and ready to go at a moments notice. So, I modified a couple of string swings and mounted them on the wall. I really like the simplicity of the string swings. They protect the headstock from damage. And the instruments are ready to play quickly. Really convenient.

Cool, it looks like from the number of members that use them, they must not damage or weaken the neck pocket over time. I am guilty of not playing as much when they are in the cases, and tend to grab a guitar and play multiple times through the day if it is hanging on the wall.

I got a Hercules wall hanger with the grabbers on it this past summer and I made sure to screw it into a stud. Keeps it out of the 4 year olds hands. I totally recommend them. I'll say this though, I thought the the screws that came with it were questionable so I used some big-ass 4" screws.

I love hanging my guitars. I have several Hercules in my music room and plan on putting a couple more in my bedroom. Not only are guitars the best form of art, but I like to make it easy to pick up if only for a few minutes.
