Ok, that rhymes, but it wasn't intended.

I'm curious to see what you guys think about guitar weight. Lighter is good? or you guys prefer breaking backs?

I recently got my Les Paul out of storage in anticipation of moving to a bigger place soon (yay!) and it's really reminded me how much I love the lightness of my EBs. That thing feels like an anchor after a little while. Light all the way. For alder guitars I seem to always prefer the sound of the light ones anyway (haven't put as much time into comparing other body woods)

well from what i hear more heavier the better sustain, but man my morse at around 7lb is so light that i never get any back aches at all anymore unlike when i had my SG.

I'm a pretty big bugger, so it took me a while to get used to playing such light guitars when I got into EBMM's.

I must admit I like the feeling of the additional weight of the BFR JP.
I had been playing my Silo & 20th's almost exclusively for ages, but picked up the BFR JP recently and REALLY enjoyed it.

Note it's just Heavier, not HEAVY. :)

I´m not puny at all, but I like light guitars.
Compared to what I played before, I thought the Morse is light until I picked up a silo and then the AL

I'm not puny either -- could stand to loose a few :) That being said, I prefer lighter. When we practice I'm standing for 2-3 hours. Used to get neck aches after jamming with my other guitar. Not an issue at all with my Silos (psst...and they sound better too).

I prefer a lighter guitar, but I need to be able to feel it on my shoulder. Too heavy is bad and too light is tolerable but not preferable.

I'm with Dizzy on this one. The Silo/Silo Spec/Silo 20th are extremely light guitars. The extra weight of the BFR JP is comfortable. I came from playing LP Customs, so I can handle a heavy guitar, but having something you can stand and play for hours is really nice.

Anyone who has played extended live sessions know what a Les Paul can do to your back.

I remember doing a session at church where between the music and the message lasted around 2.5 hours. My back felt like it needed surgery.

I went straight to the JP6 after my Les Paul. And oh goodness did it make a difference. I know it bugs someone to have a guitar that is too light, but let it be remembered and known that not feeling the weight on a long session is better than any alternative.

The weight of my 20th Silo and Silo Special are both perfect. I like the guitars to have some weight to them...for some reason light things make my mind think cheap hahaha...of course not any EBMM no matter how light it is, as we all know better than that.

I've had LPs and a Carvin (mahogany & maple top) that was 9.5 lbs. I couldn't deal with it any more, too heavy. All I have now are Axis' and find the fit, feel, and weight to be to my liking.

Well having been playing for close on 40 years it's interesting to see how trends go.

From replacing everything like nut, trem block pickup rings to brass, from "the heavier the better" to "it's gotta be featherweight". Wonder what the next trend will be?

I much prefer light, thats one of the big factors in me ordering a gold roller but if i like the guitar and it sounds good doesnt matter how much it weighs, my AL is a pretty hefty axe weight wise but rules:)
