OK, gather round, nice and close, I have an important secret to share.

It is elegant in it's simplicity, and yet virtually guaranteed to work!

As you get older you tend to get grumpier about many aspects of life. I'm 40 now and grumpy nearly all the time...........except when I am about to get or have just got a new guitar! Mrs Bungo has now come to realise this and has become, dare I say it, keen to encourage me to buy new guitars, if only for the brief respite from my grumpiness this offers her!

With careful training you too could reap the benefit of this technique. It did take a few years of perserverence and training, but I think I've got this one cracked now!:D

Wow that's me! - except I'm 38 - must have got grumpy before my time!:D
It used to be 'can we afford it' - now it's - 'get it if you want':p

Guitars.

My wife and I laid everything out on the line before we got married.

I put the music thing like this: "Don't ever make me choose between you and playing guitar, because you lose."

I've spent the vast majority of my years alive playing the damn thing, I'm not about to give it up for another human being. ;)

Ok now here this: -

It's a short life and most people get a full measure, and most pour it all away, If you are luck enough to find someone special in this life hold on tight, when she's the one you know.

If she's the one then you'll be lucky, 'cause she'll want you to be happy and buy you guitars.......

Mrs Smellybum bought my axis for me, and I love her to peices.
Smellybum Jnr, hasn't got an EBmm.................. yet.................

PS - just found out Smellybum jnr is about to have a brother or sister in January !!! YEEEEEEEHAAAAAAAAA!

Oh guitars every time.

I deliberately don't get involved or even look for a girlfriend because it would cut into my playing too much.

I was seeing a girl for a couple of weeks over easter this year. It was my time of least practice ever

My ex, literally would sit and listen to my practice or play for hours, she was very into it. She'd was the type who would think nothing would be better than a new guitar or other gear. Man, I miss her sometimes. My current GF doesn't get it all. My Axis cost me more than money... it cost several hours of attempted explanations of why I would need to own yet another guitar. It was the first I bought with her in the equation. She also doesn't understand at all why I would want to practice it, since I haven't played out in a long time. Her thinking is, if you're not playing out, why would you play. Truly does not get it, no amount of explantion seems to work. It's like trying to explain quantum physics to someone who's never had any education beyond elementary school.

My GF is very good about my guitar purchases. She doesn't quite understand why I want so many, but she does understand that it makes me happy and therefore she has no problem with it. Just before ordering my Luke, I had remorse and she even talked me into getting it. She always tells me: "it's your money do whatever you want with it":)

We're also doing the long distance relationship thing (she's in Boston), so the only situation that would really piss her off would be to tell her that I can't afford to visit because of a guitar purchase... oooh my! I would be in serious trouble:eek:

Cheers!

I played out and chased a music career for 15 years, even after I was married and had a daughter. Now I'm a computer geek who plays music for his family. I am happier than I've ever been in my life. Of course I still wish I could play out - but there's nobody out here in the middle of nowhere that plays my kind of music. I wouldn't trade my family for anything. My wife is awesome, and encourages me to play. She even understands when I spend $$ on instruments. (that took a little while - at first she had serious sticker shock - she couldn't believe how much some of my guitars cost).

I do have to admit that the lonliness and uncertainty of a stuggling musicians life did lend itself to better songwriting. :D
