Well, my wife knows that my guitars mean a lot to me, and for the most part she doesn't say much.

She will get a little bitchy sometimes when that big brown box is sitting on the doorstep, and it will be like, "what color did you buy this time!"

Then i get to hear about all the $$$ i'm wasting, blah, blah, blah...she gets over it in about 2 hours!

She will probably rip me an new A** H**E next week, when the next big brown box arrives!!;)

She will get over it with time!:D

8 years happily married, no children.

Probably has something to do with the "happily" part. :D

Now, if I were fabulously wealthy and could afford the "help" I'd need to manage a family (as we both work full-time, demanding jobs), it would be different possibly.

6 years happily married, 8 EBMM guitars happily paid for in that time!! no kids .....YET! getting all the balls i can get while i can......

They can cook. :D

I cook better than any GF I've ever had (well, OK, except for one). And I keep my kitchen cleaner than they ever kept theirs.

I also sing better than any of them did. Most of them were terrible singers but try getting them to stop trying! Just because I'm a musician doesn't mean I'll appreciate their strangled off-key warbling, it doesn't give them license to keep trying, and asking them to stop was worse than asking them to leave my toilet seat up or admit to farting in bed!

Now, what was this thread about again? Oh, I remember...

that a musician's life is not the greatest situation for raising kids or even keeping a wife for that matter

Amen to that. It's not easy at all. Then again this whole guitars vs girlfriends thing applies to professional musicians the same way than boats vs girlfriends applies to fishermen. I look at it this way - my professional tools are not something my GFs have any say in, unless they are buying me a new guitar, and even then I'll still have the last decision on colour. :)

The way it often goes...

A woman meets up with you at bunch of your gigs... consequently, you end up getting together and emerge as a couple (seriously)...

At first, she totally supports & understands your musical life & what a dedicated
commitment it takes.... Then, all of sudden, she's no longer interested in coming to the gigs...

As time goes by, you both realize you're living two separate lives... one at the night, the other during the day (she's become the "normal person," you become the
"oddball"...)

And then, if you're sharing funds & co-existing... your guitars, which she once admired, are not very pretty to her anymore..

In fact, she might start to become become annoyed with your constant attraction to them ... (Your axes may even be symbolic of what is wrong with the relationship...)

Here's a comment I once heard...

"Why would you want to buy a guitar that looks like a piece of furniture...?"

Girlfriends. No question.

I know gear and **** is cool, but true love is way better than a piece of wood ever will be.

About 6 months since I sold my les paul to hopfully find and purchase a used lefty sillouette (my first). One appeared on ebay but at the time work was thin so I felt a bit guilty bidding on it eventhough that's why I sold my Les Paul .Anyway Whilst I was out at work the Sillouette bidding was due to end so my wife promptly made an exectuive family decision and put in a bid on the guitar for me. Cool wife!
PS........
Didn't win that particular one but it wasn't long before I managed to get another one .Since then work's (pro muso) picked up so the sillouette's helping to pay the bills and everyones happy.
