I started this thread as a spin-off of the "Well-played Necks" thread.

Let's talk about the ones that we traded, sold, or maybe even just plain lost. I have lived my life getting gear by trading. I have always been a one-guitar player. I still am to a degree. Because of trading and selling, I have lost a slew of great guitars. I would have to say that the #1 worst trade I ever made was trading my '95 Blue Pearl AL. I can't say what I traded for. I would be banned...

My Al had no silent circuit and I had installed a full-size copper-plated steel baseplate underneath the bridge pickup. It was so fast and comfortable to play. Heck, I would try to play my Tele or LP and they were actually chores to play compared to my AL. I found that every EBMM guitar I played was that way; fast and comfortable. Here's a pic....

Let's hear some stories, as sad as they may be, and post pics if you have them.

You have a couple of days to read about all that I wish I still had? :) Pics of some can be found on my Myspace page (link below)

I wish I had my first ever Les Paul that my Grandma bought for me. Nothing special, kind of a dog: '82 standard, but it was a weird one. It had an ebony fingerboard and gold hardware(on a standard), weird tuners that had flip out stringwinders (a great idea BTW), weird, wide strap buttons, and it was candy apple red. I wish I had it now for sentimental reasons more than anything else. I played so many gigs with it for over 10 years and then foolishly traded it away.

As far as the other stuff goes, I'll start with my SG's. I had a:

'61 SG/Les Paul Custom(really just a Les Paul, as they didn't start designating it as an SG until 64)
'64 SG Standard
'65 SG standard
'67 SG standard (I got this one from Frank Hannon-it was his first and used a lot pre-Tesla and early Tesla)
'68 SG Standard
Pre-Historic Era Flamed out Gibson Les Paul (mid-90's), got from Tommy Skeoch (ex-Tesla). Amazing and I used it a bunch on recordings and live-it made it into a few Tesla vids
'68 Les Paul Custom-got from Tommy too; check out their "Try So Hard" video to see it. Amazing guitar.

Almost all my Historic Les Pauls were amazing, from the 57 Goldtops to the 59's.. I wish that I hadn't sold some of them, but whatever. The guitars are definitely something that I played more than collected, and I am happier playing my Axis now, not to mention playing much better than ever. I just wish I had the money that the vintage stuff is going for now.

Don't get me started on amps; some I don't care that I sold, but I wish I had some of my vintage Marshalls still. Oh, and that Trainwreck Express (that was amazing) that I didn't know would be worth $35K-$40K when I bought it for $1800.

I hardly look back. I sold some good guitars (including 2 balls one Axis from 96 and an amazing Silo Spec SSS in sparkling color) but those were unplayed so really no regret

I've got a couple that I regret that I can't seem to sell or trade. :p

Seriously, I've only had one really good guitar in my life, and it's going nowhere.

Oh man - The ones I truly regret getting rid of are:

1) Music Man Petrucci in red dawn....a truly awesome feelin guitar that I got rid of rather than just changing the bridge PUP as it sounded a little thin....

2) Music Man Grey/Silver Steve Morse....damn, got bored and swapped for a Jem 77BFP....dang.

3) Ibanez RT650 in red-flame...I don't really rate the build quality of Ibanez guitars....but this thing was steller.

4) Steinberger with a trans-trem one of the original cricket bat ones.........not so much 'cause I enjoyed playing it - just because it's a collectors piece now...

I try not to look back as the amount of money that I've spent on these bloody bits of wood and wire is wholly depressing! ;o)

I kept my two real guitars all my life - my 73 Les Paul and my custom built Dave Dearnaley Tele (which my son now has).

But I really wish I still had my '68 Gibson SG which I sold to get my Les Paul.

As an aside I wish I still had my 60's Marshall 50 head - one of the best sounding amps I have ever heard - lent it to a mate who "blew it up!"

My very first Axis.

I was too uncomfortable with truss rod adjustments and all that. I never did guitar maintenance before and I was worried I would do something bad to it. So, I got rid of it for a JP. The JP never needed adjustments and stood up very well to the weird weather we have here.

Thanks to OC (where are you bro?) and to many others here back in the day...I can do my own set ups and adjustments without blinking an eye.

Still wish I had that Axis though. It was the amber color with a top that sucks. ;)

The only one I ever sold and regretted was my first good guitar:

My Aria PE 1200. Luckily, I was able to buy it back from the chap I sold it to! I even made a profit! The guitar is in a bit of a mess these days, as I use it as a jam night free for all guitar but it still works - just! One day I will have it re-finished and the like!

I miss all of the music Man's I've lost this year.

there is one I sold a few years ago for different gear that I regret... a '90 Jackson SL-1. It was a bit beat up, but man that thing was an awesome player! Should never have given it up.... I haven't been able to find it.

It was signed by marty freidman and was definate beat up like a true player's guitar! I miss it!

"Regrets, I've had a few, but then again, too few to mention.
I did, what I had to do, and saw it through, without exemption."

Favs that passed through my hands include a 66 ES330, 68 Tele, Martin D35 and a lightweight 4 bolt hardtail G&L Legacy.

I really only have two that I wish I could have kept.

This one was just a stupid sale. I didn't give myself time to warm up to it. Now I kick myself for letting it go

This one hurt too, but I'm glad it went to a forumite (Radrock).

Keith, you and me too man, though mine has funded some pretty great guitars in the end.

Letting the Dargie go was hard.

No regrets here.
Never sold any of my guitars - nine at the moment, not just EBMM but a few more balls to come!!

BTW.: Wasn't this purple hardtail axis that now belongs to radrock in the for sale thread recently? If so, go and get it back!!!
