I knew my 5H was an early one, but I didn't realize it was first year. When did Bongos start production? Mine's DOB was 11-13-03.

You were in early. I bugged the living bejeezus out of everyone and got one of the first - if not THE first - shipped to Bass Central in November of 2003.

Funny, I've never even checked the DOB on the Black Sapphire Beast, but I bet it was around the same time as yours.

I want to say that ours (your black sapphire 5HH and my black sapphire 5HHp) are both dated middle of November 03. They are also sequential in serial number.

I didn't get mine until early February of 04. If I had wandered into the Guitar Center earlier, I would have had it earlier.

I just found the post from when my second Bongo arrived in September '04. One of, if not, the first fretless basses off the assembly line.

Psychopet and I both ordered fretless basses at the same time (he a little earlier than I). His arrived as a fretted, and he kept it and ordered another fretless later. I just played the fretted until the fretless was made.

And, just because I found it--my first post. :D

Time flies when you are fighting narrow minds and a closed market for something different.

Thanks for the neverending support....I really appreciate it.

No, thank you BP for making this magnificent piece of craftsmanship for all of us. The Bongo quickly became my my favorite MM bass made. I remember questioning it at first when I first started learning about MM basses and I thought it was ugly. You said to give it time and it would grow on me. I then bought my first one just off of your advice thinking that if I didn't like it, it was a DDII and I could probably flip it pretty quickly for another MM bass. That was 2 1/2 years ago and I now own 3 with my fourth soon to be finished and shipped to Bass Central in the next few weeks to days.

I was so inspired by this thread that I pulled the PDN Bongo out for a go last night. So freakin' sweet, and those PF boards sing. Excited to finally hear for myself about how well it records. Gonna bring the Bongo along to cut a record next month.

As for live, I don't think it's time yet, I'm a little shell shocked from a recent ride cymbal falling into my Big Al mid song...

I have several SR's and a Sterling but the Bongo really just does it for me. I remember the first Bongo I bought. I had gone to GC intending to get a Stingray and sat and played different basses for a while and walked out with a Bongo. I remember Jack being very surprised when I told him that I bought a Bongo. :)

Ha I've only owned my Bongo for a year! Wanted one since at least 1-2 years before that though! Either way, it makes me happy to know that this instrument has lasted so long after facing what seems to have been a significant amount of resistance at first.

Long live the Bongo! Different is GOOD!

Bongo is an awesome instrument and I miss mine very much!

Still don't have full employment but hope this year will be the one. Bongo is at the top of my short list of personal items once funds start coming in steady!

Bongos are a breed apart in look, feel and tone.

Happy and prosperous new year to EBMM and all the family.

Love my Bongo. The sound, the feel, the interesting story of how it almost did not come to be and the EBMM staff love that made it a reality.

I played my Bongo 4 HH Dargies Delight II at church today. She played as smooth as butter! I know I have said it before but I absolutely love these basses!

Happy Anniversary and congratulations EBMM on 10 years of Bongo production!

Had mine going on 3 years and still can't put it down. It is my main gigging machine and my Jazz sits on the stand in the backup roll 95% of the time. Will be watching closely for 2013 developments as I feel a 5er in my near future although I am so attached to the Bongo4 that I would feel I was cheating on her if another Bongo showed up.

How do you guys with multiples keep them from fighting for your attention?

they are just happy to get out of their cases and into the light, so I don't sense much jealousy.

My Bongo HH5 is my number 1 right now... I'm in the process of selling the Reflex 5HH & Sterling 5 HS

If I can grab a Sterling 5HH that may have a shot of beating out the Bongo but nothing as of yet on my end.
