Hardcase Question

I have seen the molded Musicman cases with the logo on the outside but I got my one Axis Sport in a tolex C&G case. It looks like it is exactly the right size and different than Fender tolex cases. Were there Musicman specific hardshell cases like this?

As far as I know every BFR model comes with that case, I'm not 100% sure about other models.

If you find one, be sure it'll fit your guitar. I got one off craigslist. The ASS and sub 1 fit with no trem arm. The Al and Axis didn't. It was a silo case.

Actually on the topic of BFR cases, is it possible to order a new one from anywhere? Mine took a bit of a battering (and did it's job perfectly) but I'd love a newer one that I have a little more faith in the latches in!

What do you prefer about it compared to the molded cases?

I just like the vintage styling. It's a classic guitar case design. And the guitar fits in it perfectly as opposed to Fender versions where the guitars seem to swim around in the case. I like tolex over molded cases.

There are a lot of those tolex cases out there. Ebay is a good place to watch for them.

They were the standard case that all EVH models came with...and continued to be the standard case that all Axis guitars came with for years. The molded cases came along later...I'm not sure exactly when.

I do believe that currently the standard Axis & Axis Super Sport come with the molded case...while the Axis Tributes & Ball Family Reserve guitars come with a G&G.

I agree. I like the classic design of the G&G.

Gotcha. Maybe I'm weird but I prefer the molded ones. I've had G&G cases for years with my PRS and while they may be more old school or even "classier", I find the molded cases to be more practical. They don't scuff/tear like Rolex cases and I think they protect the guitar better.

I've got the G&G case for my Luke LE, but they're different (larger) than the cases used in the 90s. More space between the headstock and the edge of the case.

I like both cases and all points for either are valid, but problem with the molded cases is when you own a decent number of EB guitars they eat up a lot of room.

They are defintely tough but I think they mark up as much if not more. Of course a mark is not a tear.

I think we can all agree that the cases that come with Musicman guitars are some of the nicest stock cases out there regardless of tolex or molded. Like I said...Fender tolex cases do not fit nearly as well.
