im just wondering
most of you have probably seen

wooten's amazing grace solo with many many harmonics note

is there a fingerboard map of harmonic notes?
i kept looking and trying but still no clue on memorizing the notes
as we play non-harmonic notes

Practice. I haven't seen a fingerboard map of harmonic notes either, but I'm not surprised. I've found that on some harmonics, even the slightest deviation from the "correct" finger position would result in a different note. Ex. Try playing the harmonic directly above the second fret and then move your finger just a bit past it and play the harmonic again. So practice and experiment! :)

The trick is in knowing how they occur. Basically, you're dividing the string length into equal parts. Halfing the length will give you an harmonic an octave above the open string. The node for this is at the 12th fret.

If you've got the string fretted at, say the 3rd fret, you can get an octave harmonic again by halfing the length of the string... by a twist of mathematics, it so happens that this node is again, 12 frets above the fundamental note, ie. at the 15th fret. The same goes for all fretted notes... there's an octave harmonic 12 frets above it.

Next one is pretty much just above the 7th fret. That's dividing the string into thirds (there's another one at the 19th fret). This gives an harmonic a perfect 12th (octave + fifth) above the fundamental (open note).

Next one, dividing the string into quarters, is at the fifth fret, and sounds 2 octaves above the fundamental.

Next one is just to the headstock-sides of the fourth and ninth frets. It's 2 octaves + a true major third above the open note.

Next one is slightly to the bridge side of the third fret. It's 2 octaves + a fifth above the open note.

Next one is slightly to the headstock side of the third, sixth and tenth frets. Its nearly 2 octaves + a minor seventh, but sounds horrible. Didn't stop Jaco.

The next one is 3 octaves above the fundamental and is slightly towards the bridge from the second fret. It's very quiet.

You can use all of these with fretted notes, just add the open harmonic position onto the fretted position, ie. if you want a harmonic 2 octaves + a fifth above a third fret note, it'd be slightly towards the bridge-hand side of the sixth fret.

There's loads more, but they're virtually unusable.

Well, more than a year ago, Bass Player Magazine published the ENTIRE wooten's
Amazing Grace both in Notation AND Tab. IN tab mode, it says exactly which parts of the fingerboard to use(eg instead of 2 touch 2,3). And I'm the lucky owner of this issue!! :D :D

Any chance you could scan it, and then post it for the better good of Bass Players everywhere?
