I just blessed the day bass cabinets started getting smaller. The Quad box is a good start but now 2x10's are caching up. Provided the stage is not so large and your band mates are mature enough to let the PA do the loud work for the crowd and just keep it nice & tight on stage, 2X10's can work really well. I'm currently using only an Eden 2X10 and thinking of placing a 1X10 on top; my back can't thank me enough.

I love the LOWS in my Crate 18" cab, I pushing with a 750 watt Peavy T Bass amp. I had a Crate 4-10 cab along with the 18 cab but found that the 18 sounded fine by its self, and less to move aroud from gig to gig.

If you're into bottom-end-hungry-take-no-prisoners kind of rock an 18" will be perfect although I find them not fast enough if you're playing funk or dance shuffles. It all boils down to personal taste and what you consider suits you best. But I believe we all agree that the less( and lighter) you carry the better.

well, gus lopez, if u don't mind, i agree. i find an 18 to be too slow..in fact, i find a 15 to be prefect. it's got descent snap..i guess u could say, or punch if u will. but i think if it was me, i'd have a 15 as the main on lows, and ome 10's or 12's to make it uber punchy, u know?

Hi SWR,
The rig I've been using for the past 6 years is an Eden 2X10 and a Trace 1X15 and works fine for almost any tipe of music. AT present I'm mainly doing function work and find the 2X10 is almost enough. I agree that rock sounds better on bigger speakers, but then again you have to compromise gear you carry with the practicality of it. I haven't tried the 2X12's but they look like a very nice alternative for an extencion or even do-it-all cab.

I definitly prefer smaller speakers for the fast attack. I mainly play jazz and funk and I agree that for pure rock, you can't go wrong with adding a 15 cab. I ususally go with 2x10 w/horn but I've tried Ashdown's 4x8 and that cab was pretty cool, in particular when combined with their 15 mini cab. I used an SWR workingman 2x12 w/horn on a gig recently but I didn't like it much. The midrange wasn't nearly as good as on most cab with 10's and it didn't blend well with the horn. Could be that's why SWR has taken that model out of their catalog.

I like just about all the cabinets mention hear and at one time or another have played thru/owned them with SWR being my favorite for a very long time. With that being said,I now play thru the Aguilar 2x12 enclosure with the GK 2001 RB head along with a Radial engerneering JDI-Direct box and I honestly have to say that this is the very 1st time that I kinda like the way my SR5 sounded because I was able to really take away some the high end bite of this bass(and also give my MTD A REST !).The Aguilar 2x12 cabinet is as fast as a 4x10,and is not as heavy as most 4x10's.If any of you players get a chance to try this cabinet,by all means do so.

My back made me promise it that I won't carry anything over 30Kg:eek: So that more or less excludes, I think, most quadboxes in the market and maybe the 2X12. The 4x8 is a nice alternative though; I did try an SWR a few years back and it wasn't bad at all as long as it was "floored" against a wall; as soon as taken away from tyhe wall the bottom died, that was to do with its port being at the back of it. I believe SWR doesn't make that model any more, in fact several 4x8 have been withdrawn like the Trace Elliot.
I also noticed the throatiness of the Aguilar boxes. I had tried the 4x10 comparing it with the Eden & SWR Quads at the shop and found it(Aguilar) has more Midrange (they're more expensive to :( )
I wonder if some day someone is going to design a 2x10/2x8 box.
Bye for now

Hi Tonkpils,
Nothing wrong with quadboxes, its just the weight of them. But if you're still relatively joung & strong good on ya.;)
I've actually tried the 3500 once and enjoyed it.
Cheers
