My JP6 will not stay in tune. Even when in tune, I could hit an G power chord on the D string and both strings sound in tune, but when I hit a regular D chord, the D and G strings sound out of tune. Suggestions?
Possibly, I checked it and it seems fine. I guess I'll have to take it to the local guy. It's a great guitar, best one I've ever owned. Just need to get it set up correctly.
Did you check it with a tuner? I find tuners with needles give a mixed result when doing fine tunings like that. The whole +/- 3 cents thing I guess. A strobe tuner works better from what I'm told. Also, when checking the intonation and setting it up, do it in the playing position. It will be off a little if the guitar is lying on its back.
If not intonation, worn frets can cause notes to be off too. Something to check anyway..
Does it actually go out of tune between chords? After you play the G-D, do you have to retune the guitar? If so, you need to lube the nut, tighten the tuners, etc as has been discussed on the board before.
If not, your tuning is either slightly off to start with or it's an intonation issue as mentioned. Definitely having a good tuner (e.g. Peterson Strobostomp or VS-II) will make a world of difference and is necessary if you're going to intonate it.
