Only unintentionally when I've put thicker strings on, however I returned it to non floating as I like to rest my hand on the bridge and prefer a horizontal rest...

Saying that I'd quite like a proper floating Floyd Axis with full on trem routing...maybe one day I'll buy a beaten up one to experiment on...

Yeah - not too nice - you could get a number 25 bus under the strings, pretty good for the weird noises though but not recomended!

There's a guy up my neck of the woods who's done some sort of rear route on his axis, haven't played it but it looks weird.

Keep 'em as they are I say, how much up floyd work can you do per track?, if you want to fake up trem - go down a 1/4 tone then wiggle, just don't let go.....:D

Yeah, I set it up like that for fun but then went back. No real difference except for the "sponginess" of a floating trem. The Luke's got the same trem (different saddles) and floats a bit; pretty much the same thing.

I set up my trem that way, and I don't see what the fuss is.

I don't get nearly enough pull action, but a little is better than none at all.
When I bought it, I had it set up so that the bridge posts were set high, and the saddles low. So my action is great, and I get to pull up on the trem some.

BTW, I also installed piezo saddles on mine, so I got it all :)

..interesting DD!
Please tell me more. What type of saddles did you install? Was it easy? I assume you needed to install preamp and drill for a toggle too, right?
Any pics? What was the final cost to upgrade?

Hi,
I actually watched that thresad with interest.
Q) How do you control the piezo output live?
Q) What model piezo saddles (Graph Tech #) did you use?
Thanks

1) I control the output using the "quick switch", which is three-position: mag(electric)/both/piezo. Everything goes out a stereo jack, with the mag pickups output on one side (through a GT8 and a Mesa Road King) and the piezo on the other (to the PA via a Tech 21 Acoustic DI).

I normally leave the switch on mag, but throw it to piezo or both when I need it. I have no real need to control the piezo volume, which is why I don't have a volume control on it. If I ever do, I'd route it through a volume pedal before the Acoustic DI.

When I use the "both" position, I control the right amount of electric guitar wth either the volume control on the guitar or the GT8's volume pedal (depending how much I want to affect the gain). My band does, for example, Wanted Dead Or Alive from Bon Jovi, and I go back and forth between piezo only and a mixed signal which I vary using the guitar's volume.

2) This GHOST system was installed on my PRS Custom 24, so the saddles are the PRS models (PN-8220-00). But Graphtech recommends the regular (import strat) saddles (PN-8000-00) for an Axis. The only difference is the length of the height adjustment screws. The PRS ones worked fine anyway.

I added a piezo too- but to my Morse. Same Graph Tech system, but I used their Tuneomatic bridge replacement. Sounds awesome.

I did one thing differently than Dan. I found in the "mag only" position I could hear a tad of hiss from the preamp. Really bugged me at high gain settings. I did speak with Graph Tech about it and tried a replacement preamp which didn't satisfy me.

So in the end I removed the "quickswitch" and in it's place wired up a 4PDT on/on/on toggle switch. I still have the active piezo only and mag+piezo positions, however I wired up the mag only position to be passive. When you throw the switch it disconnects the mags from the preamp entirely and redirects the output jack to the mag wiring.

In this way, there's no noise on the mag only setting and you can play it without a battery. (In case it dies.) For me, this was the perfect solution.

Cool setup. I don't hear any hiss in the mag only postion... weird.
But at least you don't need the battery to play mags only, which is cool.

Yeah- it was weird. I re-wired the sucker a number of times. Then shielded all the wiring like crazy. Finally, I shipped it to Lea at Graph Tech for him to look at. He thought it sounded fine. He must have thought I was nuts (he wouldn't be the first). Alas ... still bothered the heck out of me, so I went the switch route.

Lea was really helpful and even suggested a number of alternate ways to wire it up. But in the end, using my own wiring and fully disconnecting the mags and output from the preamp solved my problem! And I can still get the active mag only setup by turning down the piezo volume in the "both" switch position. (All the "quickswitch" does is ground the mag or piezo input.) And yep- still totally useable now if the battery dies :D
