I own a 2018 5-string HH, and previously owned a 2005-ish HS and a 2012-ish HH. I just picked up a 2024 model, and have been surprised at how significantly different it sounds. Identical strings and setup, but the tonal character is very different (not subtly different - significantly different).
I characterise what I hear as having less depth in the bass, but also fewer overtones. It's more clinical, but less exciting.
It's also noisier, too (RF hum, etc). My previous models have all been dead quiet!
The only obvious differences I see are:
Would love to hear the thoughts of other Bongo players and others with insight on this topic.

The only obvious differences I see are:
- Ebony board. Could make it more bright, but that's not entirely what I'm hearing.
- Electronics are now SMD rather than through-hole. Components are definitely different, but I've not investigated the overall circuit.
