Bass Control....I live in Virginia Beach....PM me the store and I can tell you if they are garbage or not...I know all of them out there and I know who to avoid and who to send you too. Currently in San Diego....but, when I get back, I will have to catch up with you....

oopsiehuman error = dealer opportunity

So, I went into my local Mom and Pop music store today to talk to one of my good bass friends about ordering a Bongo 5 H/SC+P, what it would entail, and stuff like that. He told me a few things about the Bongo that I just wanted to confirm with you guys because I wasn't quite sure about the information he gave me.

1) He isn't sure that he can even order a Bongo for me and said that in their contract there are only certain models that they are allowed to order and carry. Is this true that their distribution contract limits the models, or am I being inadvertently talked into a Stingray 5?

2) He stated that the Bongo is manufactured oversees, yet I have seen many backs of Bongo headstocks that clearly say "Made in SLO" and that the quality of the Bongo is far less than the SR5. Again, is he pulling my chain a little?

I looked up these two questions on the board and didn't find them. Sorry BP if posting this is bad for you business (especially if someone takes it the wrong way), but I just wanted to make sure that I wasn't be lied to by a dealer just so he can make a little more on SR5s than Bongos (employees have told me that SR5s do sell for a little more than Bongos).

From many years of retail experience I've learned that one of the most difficult things for a counterperson to say is "I'm sorry I don't know the snswers to your questions, but if you'l kindly tellme your phone number I'll contact the supplier right away and call you back with the correctdetails:cool:

I'm of theframe of mind that believes it's the dealer's responsibility to recruit qualitystaff and train them properly. and the hard dirty bottom line is it's also the counterperson's responsibility to search out accurate product information never mind his own brand and model preferences.;)as a former trainer of mine once said "there are no dumbquestions, only dumbanswers:confused:

Man, if I made up answers at the pharmacy, people could die. At the music store they would just never come back. hahaha.

That being said, I'm more than ready to say "I don't know, but I will get you an answer right away" at either job.

Contact me if you are in the USA, I'm more than willing to help you!

I think you should just give the owner of the store the URL of this thread.

And then ask for your discount because you didn't mention the name of the store.

Does size really matter

Thanks Pops.

The only other dealer in this area is Guitar Center, and I've had horrible experiences with them. This dealer of whom we speak of has treated me extremely well in regards to other purchases (cables for a school I help at, my brother's guitar). I think it was just this one employee's own lack of knowledge if that be that case.

Thanks for the clarification Mr. Ball. I'm looking forward to ordering my Bongo in the future.

Hi Bass Control ... I think you've got this thing figured out already ;)...In the past I've had equally unfortunate encounters with both major league retailers and the Mom & Poppers, Interpersonal communications areprone to misunderstandings and true professionals (imho) will often recognize
when human error creeps in =(professional opportunity)and take the necessary action to clarify and confirm exchanged information ... Hopefully , your dealer will catch the vibe of this thread and backtrack to save a deal with you and prevent future discontent bad advertising, and potential "lost sales"

Good Luck & good BONGO Hunting:)

Beth, speaking of EBMM dealers who may not be full bottle, you've got a PM about something interesting I found on ebay.

I can only imagine - but there is something dodgy (sorry allegedly dodgy....maybe just unusual) going on on the UK ebay website as well....Beth I can email you the link if you like but I think Strings and Things are on to it...

Oh Yes, I see it now!!!

Damn expensive though aren't they especially that 5 string? That's the equivalent of $3300!
