This issue is bothering me too. I have a custom built acoustic by a UK based builder and I would probably get the chair for travelling to the states!
It's got a Brazilian rosewood board, and honduran mahogany back/sides/neck. The oldest piece of wood was roughly 100 years old when I went and picked the blanks out for it back in 2001.
As for my musicman and my Yamaha semi, well, I don't think I would want to risk it. With foreign dates looming, i think i will be purchasing a guitar from lesser brand, fitting it with nice electronics and sanding the finish off the neck.
It would break my heart to lose a guitar due to a sensible and necessary- if poorly executed- law.
