Head Recommendation ???

havent played a gk yet ... but ive played a bunch of heads at the local shop the last couple days.

so far ive tried out: fender 800 pro, ampeg svt3, svt4, mesa 400+, mesa big block 750, mesa m-pulse 600 and an ampeg svt classic.

so far its a tie between the svt classic and the m-pulse 600. the ampeg tube sound rules and the mesa's sound is pretty sweet too esp w/ the parametric eq. my main decision point now lies at ... classic ampeg tube tone w/ no frills vs great mesa tone + cool features (Compressor, footswitchable solo boost etc)

we'll see what happens ... i think im leaning towards mesa

i got the m-pulse 600 today.

a bit later i took it to my bands studio to see how it sounds with my cabs ... after about 20 minutes of playing it blew up. yup, smoke and all.

mesa support & the store i goti it from are closed till monday. needless to say im really bummed right now

i use two 8 ohm cabs ... so 4 ohm load is cool for the amp ... i have no idea what happened. i totally didnt have anything cranked up at all. master was at about 9 oclockish, gain at about 11, solo volume at about 10 oclock, i had the eq just about 12 oclock for all the gain and hz dials.

i turned the eq on with the footswitch & smiled. then kicked on the solo volume and poof ... smoke and sadness.

i hope i can just get another one (or my $ back) i really dont wanna have to do a warranty repair or send it back to mesa after owning for about 6 hours
