I love my Tascam BT-1.

I got one of those and quit after 3-4 months. I cannot locate sales receipt to get a return so was given a repair center to call and they wanted $50.00 just to take a look at it. May as well buy a new one for that. I am getting "disc error" message on the display. Anyone had and resolved that problem??? I put in different discs and tried cleaning the optical thingy to no avail.:( :( :(
Any help would be appreciated............................

I have two Cafe Walters. They're great. I run either a RY-9 drum machine or my Ipod through it. Oh yeah, and a bass guitar.

I use a Zoom PS-04 Palmtop for a headphone amp. It has a built-in drum machine and 4-track recorder, and is only a bit larger than a pack of cigarettes. It is fun to practice with, you can work on your time (with the drum machine), and if you get a good idea, just hit record. I also use it when I want to record parts of a gig to check myself, and at rehearsals. Its built-in mic is first class.

I'm a total bass gear noob, so let me ask this.

What is the benefit of something like the Cafe Walter amp over purchasing something like the Bass POD?

I'm using a Tascam CD-BT1MKII. It's a much updated version of the CD BT1.:)

I love my Tascam BT-1. It incorporates a CD player to practice along with. It's got lots of features (tuner, effects, etc.) but most valuable is its ability to shift the key, pitch and/or speed of the recording. :)

+1 I love mine!! :D I have it set up with Ultimate Ears Superfi 5 in ear monitors and it totally blocks out all outside noise. It IS a battery hog though. Best to use rechargeables with it.

The KORG Bass PANDORA. It has everything: all sorts of quality 4/4 and odd-time drum loops in many styles as well as effects and the ability to loop yourself.

Hiya

No doubt these guys will correct me if I'm wrong (be gentle! :) ) but I think the most basic and most important difference is that the Cafe Walter lets you hear yourself just how you are - there's nothing in there to make you sound any better/worse or just different. So it's easier to pick up things to improve from as you've not got anything in the mix muddling it up.

With something like the Bass POD, you run the risk of it not being quite as clean/pure. The guys gave me the exact same req a few months back when I asked - yet to test one out for myself, but I think there's enough positive reviews on here to warrant giving it a go!

(Reminds me I need to get one from Stevie at some point...);)

As a BODxt owner - you nailed it right on the head. BODs are nice toys but in the end run you spend far more time on tone and effects than you do on actually playing. BODs can cover a number of playing flaws too. but in the end, keep it simple. The more of "you" that you actually hear the better off you will be (it is why my practice set up is totally flat with no effects. Sometimes it is painful to hear but the fact that I CAN hear the flaws helps).

In that case, can a Bass POD be configured to achieve the same effect as the Cafe Walter amp? Or is the Cafe Walter amp simply better suited to this task.

Mainly I'm wondering if I purchase both (eventually), if I'll have one piece of equipment that I just don't use very much.
