Hello all. I have a JP15 and I find the illuminator pickups overly bright compared to my other guitars. Most of the time I'm running into my DAW using a plugin. I have a set of EMG 85s in my Ibanez, my only other active pickups, and they sound much closer to my other guitars. Of course I can dial them in but I'm surprised how dramatically different the setting are compared to the rest to get them sounding good. Thanks

Hello and Welcome Aboard

Bright pickups can be useful in order to cut through the mix. Petrucci plays in a band where there is a keyboard, thus he needs to find a place in the mix. And a keyboard takes a lot of space, especially with Jordan Rudess who plays 1 billion notes per second !

I’m with you. The Illuminators in my Majesty were swapped for the rainmaker/dream catcher pair. To my ear, the Illuminators were too ‘scratchy’ compared to my other guitars.
