Hello from the UK.
I am currently playing a Yamaha 5 string, but I have my dream bass on order. A Bongo 4 string in Tangerine Pearl. I literally cannot wait for it to arrive. Still another 2-3 months to wait unfortunately. I am wishing the time away.
I was intrigued to know if anyone can recommend any good Youtube tutorials about setting up bass guitars. I am totally inexperienced and usually get someone else to do it, but I think it is high time I learnt how to do it myself.

You have very good taste regarding the Bongo, very nice, Tangerine Pearl is very much a Bongo colour, if its a single H then you have ordered my wish list
Don't know of any tutorials off hand but a Google search is a good place to start, bet there are loads

Hi there. Welcome to the forum. A basic rule for me is, once a bass has been set up good once, the only thing you ever need to adjust is the trus rod. So you do a basic setup for, neck bow, intonation, checking nut and saddle height and pickup height. Once this is all good for you the only thing that can change due to climate is the neck relief (bow). Sadle height or intonation will not reset itself so if its good, leave it. If over time your action is too high or low. Adjust the trus rod with a small spin of the trus rod wheel and you are fine.
Mm basses should come setup perfectly from the factory (for e tuning with regular strings) so the only thing that should be touched is the trus rod unless you plan on using different tunings

agreed, EBMM basses come quite perfectly setup. Low action, but no buzz. You have ordererd an awesome bass good sir

Thanks loads guys for your advice. I went into the dealership the other day and was talking to my buddy who owns the shop and he is just as excited as I am at the impending arrival of my Bongo. Mine is the 4 string HH. My practice regime has gone through the roof in anticipation of it's arrival. I am a relative newbie bass player having played the drums in countless bands for nearly 30 years. I have just always fancied learning to play the bass having previously worked with some great players down the years. I am totally motivated and practicing on my 5 string Yamaha in my spare room as much as I can. I am using a small 20w Roland Cube practice combo at the moment, but I already know what I am going to get when I decide to join a band. At the guitar shop they have a great Hartke rig in there which consisted of a LH500 amp and a Hydrive cab with a 15" speaker in it. Tried out a Bongo through that in the shop and it sounded great, so that is going to be the set up I will use when the Bongo arrives. I should have just enough money left to complete my rig. Happy???? I will be when it is all set up and running. Blimey. It's gonna be awesome.

The HH will give you tons of tone options, the PU blend knob is really cool. Just watch how much you use the EQ knobs. I little bit goes a LONG way on the Bongo.

Hey Danny,
Cheers for the welcome. Still finding my way around the site. A real source of interesting info. I am counting down the days (seconds even) until my Bongo lands. Gonna be brilliant. One thing you may be able to help me out with is the signature on my posts. I can't seem to get it the way I wan't it even though I have gone into the settings. Don't know if you could give me any pointers?

Welcome and congrats on your new Bongo - the wait will be well worth it. Plus 1 on the Tangerine Pearl! My 5HH rosewood neck is the finest bass I have ever owned.
