The neckplate does not look original to me.

Yeah, that's why I asked here before buying.
Never seen a neckplate like that on an Axis... Also the font of the serial # looks different to me.
And what about those extra holes on the neck base?

Yep. I was going to search that myself but was at work and didn't have time right then. Yours is definitely not a Luke in Luke Blue, so I think it's safe to say the neck plate isn't original. You are right that the font isn't correct either.

perhaps the natural headstock on an Axis?
Is that a joke? I'm thinking it is. The Axis is available with natural headstock. If you're saying that an Axis looks better with a matching headstock, that's another issue.
