i think once you get your hands on an HH AL you wouldn't want to do any mods. That is a new release and is one exceptional guitar that is seeming to get a lot of love round these parts lately.

I play a couple of Silhouettes but the AL's are rockin guitars... i played fenders almost exclusively for the longest time until this year and i sold off everything i own and play EBMMs exclusively and don't even look at stattys or gibbys... for me the only way to go is EBMM from here on out.

I don't know.. I'm kind of a pickup freak. I switch between bridge humbucker, bridge single and neck single several times in the set. I'm very interested in the new PRails.

Welcome to the wonderful world of Music Man guitars. My electrics are now exclusively EBMM.

After you own one, trips to music stores aren't as fun anymore. When I owned other guitars, I would go check out different guitars that played or sounded better than the ones I owned. Unless you go to an EBMM dealer, you will frustrate yourself trying to find guitars with better tone or playability.

As for coil splitting... you do lose some volume when you do a traditional grounding of the center point, but it's going to happen with any pickup. You're removing half of what generates the sound. Fortunately, our ears don't hear linearly, so it's not a huge change. I have an Axis that's coil split (I believe it's the same pickups as the Al HH...or at least close) and I tend to set the volume a bit higher on the guitar when I coil split.

The Al HH has good settings (5 of them) where you may want to just leave it alone.

Get an Al HH. No....really.....get one!

Welcome. As far as splitting the pups goes, what I have found works really well is set up the gain so you are "there" on 8 on the volume of the guitar and when you split boost it to 10. Works really well. I was concerned with the figured and birdseye necks as well, but so far so good and time tells the story. Enjoy your new love

Yes, that´s it, and one JP6 red pearl too. Had one Mystic dream earlier.
I have had some problems with this BFR so I didn´t ever post the pictures... great guitar, great finish, great sound... if you don´t get these problems with it.

Glenn, I played my MM90 AL (which has a pretty knotty neck) all over the place last year: outdoor jobs when it was hot as blazes and when it was cool and raining cats and dogs before the show, indoor jobs year round in all kinds of humidity and temperature, and I never have had to adjust my truss rod. My action is low too. Makes me wonder if there is that much to the quarter-sawn/flat-sawn, figure/no-figure stability debate. Tweaking the truss rod's a breeze on EBMM guitars anyway because of the wheel adjustment in front of the neck pickup. I did fool with it at home one time to see how little relief I could get by with and it is really straight and buzz-free.

I just got a HH AL and it's terrific. The split pickup positions are a little lower in output but that's the nature of the beast. The split sounds are great as are the full humbucker sounds, clean and dirty. You can play it all night on every song.

Man, I've been thinking about those guitars so much the last couple of weeks. It'll be tough to decide between the MM90 and the HH. Maybe it was just me, but that HH was a bit lighter.

I was surprised when my HH came that it wasn't any heavier than my MM90. They both balance and feel about the same. As far as which to get, it would be best if you could A-B them. Just depends on what kind of pickup flavors you like and what's best for the kind of music you're doing. Piezo bridge is also an option on regular ALs and isn't available on HH models. Decisions, decisions....
