I see. Thanks for the advise guys.

unless he drops his price round $400, then there will be no deal.

the seller is also asking if EB MM ever used composite-like paint during 1985-87...this way, he may also be verifying if what he's selling to me is repainted.

Good luck mate... let us know how you go, the old 6 bolters are really cool (I have one).

The guitar is worth what you want to pay for it. If you love it and it talks to you then they are always worth a little more. :)

It looks legit, except for all the "upgrades". A lot of the early serial #'s were later re-used on the EVH, I know mine was.

Yes, I've read that before as well. Actually on those early Silo serial numbers the first 2 digits were the year; the remaining digits were the serial number so on this one the "86" should stand for "1986" and the remainder is the sequential serial number - meaning the modded black one should be the 53rd guitar built in 1986. Evidently they restarted the numbers each year - since someone else has posted a 1987 with the number "87002" - meaning it was the 2nd guitar built in 1987.

After EBMM changed their serial numbers to the neck plates the numbers were put on the neck plates somewhat sequentially but the plates are stored in a bin and are used at random - which is why we have to get the "born on dates" from the folks at CS. That is when the numbers were reused, but this time the first 2 digits don't have any special meaning.

Thanks! As much as I want it...money is really tight...so I can't help but be practical too.

I've done crazy purchases before, overpriced but assessed it was worth it because I'm happy. But with all the crisis going on, gauging the price in ratio with the item at hand is a must.

I'll keep you guys posted.

MusicMan Silhouette.jpg I have an '86 Silhouette. The serial number is 86056 and that appears on the back of the headstock. It is trans-red with 3 single coils. I read somewhere that the pickups are Schallers. It has a 6 bolt neck, Schaller tuners and a locking tremolo. Single tone and volume pots and a 5 position swithch. The neck is flame & birdseye maple with a birdseye maple 24 fret fretboard.

I bought it used in 1990. My buddies were ticked off when they played it because they all thought THEY were the only ones who should find really good sounding guitars. My other guitar at the time was a 1986 '62 reissue Strat. The Silhouette blew the doors off of the Strat. Still does but for some unknown reason, the Strat is worth more. Fender bigots, I suppose.

Awesome story, and great looking Silhouette.
