It's important to rehearse at normal gig stage volume levels.....

I totally agree with Aussie Mark. I use the same 350w rig in rehearsals that I use on stage. I do have the 130w combo that I use when playing by myself though.

WOW! don't get silly on us now... Practicing at stage levels is the only way. As stated above, it teaches you dynamics in the music... dynamics in one of the many things that gives you a pro sound as a band.

that way you don't over or undershoot your material when playing live...

it's sound (no pun intended...) advice - you should listen

With your attitude it sounds like you're better off continuing to rehearse in your bedroom. If you aren't willing to listen to advice from people who have 20 or 30 years experience you're never going to improve your knowledge. Maybe one day you'll get it.

Which Crown amp do you use? what are you using for a preamp? and do you like it?

I've got an XLS 402, it's one of Crown's entry level amps, it's kind of a pain to bridge into mon but it's built like a tank and having that much power does make a difference in the "robustness" of the tone. I'm using an Avalon U5 for a pre-amp and so far it's kept me pretty happy. I've used it through an Eden 210 XLT and an old Traynor 215 and it's been great. I'm most likely going to be getting an Eden 210 XST until I can get the money together for Phil Jones Bass cabinet set-up.

Yup, my band rehearses at stage volume in a rehearsal studio. We do occasionally jam at quieter volumes, but the material we come up with there sometimes doesn't translate well to louder volumes.

Besides, if you don't play loud on a regular basis, you won't have a good feel for playing loud. Lots of players clam up when they get a lot of volume behind them. It used to scare the crap out of me! ;-)

ska punk. a horn could be cool but i dont know anyone who plays a horn.
as far as i can tell GKs are a lot more pricy than ampegs.

i am willing to listen. but im just looking for a small amp for my bedroom, thats all. i dont understand why you people tell me i should go with 300w + amps when im only intersted in a small amp.
