Matte finishes are extremely hard to get to "match". Honestly, I think you would make it worse by trying to do any type of buffing/repair

Yeah, I'm starting to think that I should leave that alone, but what can I use to clean it?

Don't clean it! Let the patina build up. It's a known fact that patina attracts mojo.

To be honest, I only bother cleaning my hardware. I let nature take its course on the finish. I don't ever plan on selling it, so that radically changes the way you view scratches and dings; so YMMV.

It does attract mojo, that's a well known fact! But I just wqnt to get it all filthy with sweat :(
