HI PEOPLE,
IM SORRY TO BE BRINGING GIBSON LES PAULS UP IN CONVERSATION IN A MUSICMAN FORUM BUT I WAS PRACTICING JUST AFEW MINS AGO.IVE BEEN TRYING TO STABILISE THE INTONATION(TUNING) ON MY LP FOR THE LAST FEW DAYS&ITS VERY FRUSTRATING.IVE TRIED GIVING THE STRINGS AGOOD STRETCH AND ADJUSTING THE BRIDGE ALSO WITH ASCREW DRIVER BUT IT WONT SETTLE.
ANY ADVICE FROM EXPERIENCED GUITAR PLAYERS WUD BE APPRECIATED ON HOW TO SORT OUT THIS PROBLEM BEFORE THE GUITAR ENDS UP OUT IN THE FRONT GARDEN.

p.s i have a BFR JP F-1 ON ORDER so the les paul will have to take aback seat.

If you post this on the Gibson Les Paul forum ( Gibson Forums ) there'll be people on there with more experience of the kind of problem you're having.

Have you recently changed anything on the guitar? eg string gauge, new tuners, or have you just recently bought the guitar?

Get yourself some 10 gauge strings & a Conn ST-11 or Petersen 490 strobe tuner , and go from there ..Intonate open & on the 5th. & 12th. Personally I've found Set-Neck Gibsons can only be truly intonated..and kept stable neck with 10's .And while your doing that stick a Dimarzio Tone Zone in the bridge ....Or trade it in on a EBMM ....Not to bash..But all the guys I ever work with that play Gibsons...basically rape them..New pickups..Sperzels or schallers..and jumbo fret wire...which really costs to do on a Les paul Custom...for these reasons..Thats why N.Y.C & Long Island has so many repair shops ..

Ok - is it the intonation?
or is it that the guitar will not stay in tune?

My Les Paul was crap at staying in tune and the fault was in the machine heads.
The worm gear wore so much that the damn thing would not stay in pitch.
Three sets of machine heads later and it's fine now!!
But there again I don't use it anymore.
