I'm sure this has been done before but I like doing things over and annoying the people that get annoyed by it. :)

I'm going to purchase a 5 string and I was certain it was going to be a Bongo with dual humbuckers and a piezo. Figured I go for broke. I'm rethinking it now and would like some input from people who are familiar with different Bongo 5s and Stingrays.

I'd appreciate opinions on the differences btwn Bongos and Stingrays, and also what the difference is between the J pu and the Humbucker in the neck position should I decide to go Bongo. Ohh yeah - and does a piezo add much versatility to a Stingray? Any and all thoughts on the above mentioned 5 strings is appreciated.

You can do a search on this subject in the "search" box. It has been reviewed MANY times already. Not much more can be said about it.

Joe you gotta a tough decision bud. The SR5 totally rocks and I hear tell so does the Bongo. Then of course the easy way out is the SR5 so you don't have to buy 5 Bongos to get the different pickup configurations. Of course 5 Bongos would make any players life easier.

Sorry I couldn't help.

Just try everything :D
If I ever have enough money to buy a 5 decent 5 string, I'll ask myself the same question, but till than.....

get a used sr5 ... that saves you enough money to jump on a used Bongo when it pops up on evil bay ... then you'll have both.

honestly tho, i think the best thing to do is to try them both out. i went thru "should i get a sterlin or a stingray" dilema ... i played both at a GC a few years ago: played the Sterling for a while then plugged in the SR4 and the neck difference made up my mind instantly. (well eventually i got an SR4 too :))
