Hey brutha'
2 SR5s here ... both matching hdstk
1 = Honeyburst / Shell / Fretless (timeless classic)
1 = BlackCherryBurst / WhPrloid / Maple (very elegant)
It's #3 that's drivin' me crazy ...
EnvyGreen / Abalone or
Rolls Burgundy / Abalone
Bongo5 / Fretless

blackcherry burst looks quite nice...I almost got a blackcherry ray but instead at the last minute I went with a Pacific blue burst sterling...it was a tough decesion...they both look great.

Can't Go Wrong with PacificBlueBurst

PacificBlueBurst / Abalone / Rosewood was my next SR5
until the Bongo was introduced, and EBMM convinced me to go next generation, but Bongo isn't offered in PacBlu ...
so I decided (elimination) on Rolls Burgundy, (less flashy than yummy DesertGold) and then EnvyGreen was announced as a special option, like EBMM was reading my mind ...
then I decided against a Bongo and was headed back to the PacBlu SR5 / Rosewood, until I read a post here on the sound of a Bongo5 SHP (Fretless) ...
so now we're back to RollsBurg or EnvyGrn

Personally I think Sterlings look amazing in any of the burst colors, especially cherry burst and vintage sunburst. If you're willing to spend the extra cash for one of these amazing finishes (which I would definatly do) then you cant go wrong, just make sure u post some pics when you get it.

im anti matching headtsocks
If EBMM didn't do such a fine job with Matching Hdstks I'd agree with you ... I still have to think each colour choice on it's own ... ie. for my taste, a Candy Red, Black, or White unit would need a plain Hdstk ...

but on the SR5 Honeyburst / Shell / Fretless ... can you say Extraterrestrial ... the way the darkgrain of the reddish board seems to blend with the dark of the burst at both Body and Hdstk ends of the neck make the unit look like it's been handcarved from a single block of lumber ... Cherryburst, Honeyburst and Natural are high on my list.
Would a Tort or Python Pickguard
be too busy looking with these shades?
Also, I can get an Egyptian Smoke,
Maple board and matching headstock for 1299 + tax. (basscentral quote)
The matching headstocks are cool but I think it's too much detail.
Man this tough!

I saw those pics before. Schweet! That is Cherryburst. Yum indeed.
The transluc colors are hot but too showy for my old self :eek:

Trans gold is pretty subtle, I thought

Egyptian smoke and Abalone or Moonstoon pick guards are way good looking irreguardless of matching headstock. IMHO

Can't See It Myself But It Feels Good

maybe a small point on matching hdstks, but when I'm playing, I can't tell the difference ... could this be a contrived cold commercial bottomline maneuver by corporate mercenaries over in SLO ?
meanwhile, as far as furniture goes, a matching hdstk is sorta like when the missus puts a bow in her hair ... how can a guy resist a little extra tug on the heartstrings ... a touch of romance / Rayan

I like that envy green that's just coming out with the black headstock but my favourite Ernie Ball finish is honeyburst. The nats look classic too.
