This will be the first truly new bass I have ever bought (I've had at least 50 or 60). I'm thoroughly impressed with the quality and consistency of EBMM basses and the Stingray has been the answer to my long search for tone.

I've got a great '94 sunburst SR4 and I want the new one to have dual pickups. I've played both in the store, but on different occasions and weeks apart. I like the soloed neck coil and position 2 on the HS, but don't suspect I'll use the bridge single much. The HH struck me as being a bit too boomy/woofy in the store when soloing the neck hb, but I otherwise like it alot.

Who has real-world experience with both and can you tell me more about how the neck coils perform? I played Pbasses for a long time and I prefer that classic mid-heavy tone as opposed to a boomy modern rock tone. Is there much difference between positions 2 and 4 on the HH?

I'm psyched and appreciate any opinions you can share. Thanks!

No experience with an HS, but to try and answer your last question...I wouldn't call it a big difference between 2 and 4 on the HH, but there is definitely a different flavor to both of them. My favorite right now is 3...full tone along with that EBMM growl.

I am in the same boat with mynan. No expirience witht the HS, but the HH is awesome. My actual preference is the single H, but if you are going with a multiple P/U set up, I'd say get the HH. If one coil is good on the neck position....2 must be better, right?? Hey, maybe they can design a 3 coil for the ....nah.... nevermind! I'm kidding. Go with your heart/crotch. That is what a bass purchase is really about....at least, to me it is!

I played an HS in the store today and I thought it was totally different than the sound of my HH. The S was really dry no matter what I did, I think that it actually sounded weaker like it was wired different on the humbucker from mine. I just noticed mine is exactly like Mynans and his shares my actual birthday. Play them both and see what your preference is. I played a Sterling today that felt alot like my Jazz, but sounded so much better. I guess thats next.

Anybody else? I'm leaning towards an HH. I see a natural or maybe white Ray w/maple fb in my future.

Despite being a father of 5, I'm a very impatient person so please chime in soon!

I'm going with the HH on my new Ray. I just love the fatness (is that a word?) of the neck humbucker
