Greetings everyone,

I'm selling some gear at the moment and I'm thinking of trying out a music man with the money. I'm primarily a blues / classic rock player but cover a variety of other styles. I'm was thinking of spending around 1,600 used or new. I would love to hear some suggestions.

Thanks,
Put

Welcome to the forum, Put!

I suggest an Albert Lee for your style. My youngest son has the bass version, the Big Al, and it is so comfortable to play.

Have a great day!

Note to my friends: This does not count as Tollie-jacking  a thread as this pic is neither of my pets nor my personal ebmms.

My friend,

Best thing you can do is play them and decide for yourself.

I´d recommend the Steve Morse guitar, it is and awesome and versatile instrument, either of them (the standard or the Y2D). That will do for more strong tones, almost Les-Paulish. Also, the Silhouette is and amazing guitar, and it can give you a more "strat" sound, with the single coil version.

Then, the Axxis is another amazing instrument, and so is the Luke and Albert Lee...and the Petrucci is a beast on its own, a great instrument.

Any ball you choose will keep you happy, and it surely will exceed your expectations.

But as it is true that there are many models and choices, you are the only one who can decide which one will suit you the best. Specially if you live in the US, go to any GC and try the MM´s available. You won´t regret it.

Boy, even talking blues covers a lot of ground.

I'm going to say a Silhouette Special if you want a traditional looking guitar that sounds awesome and is perfectly balanced.

If you want something that won't look like every other guitar you see, I'd go with either an Al or an Al HH (or one of each). The Al has the SSS that can cover single coils all over. The HH version can go from sweet neck tones to growling bridge stuff.

A Steve Morse covers virtually everything.....with it's 96 different pickups (I'm kidding.....maybe)

An Axis Supersport is another non traditional look and between the 2 hums, the ability to run inside or outside coils and my favorite....push pulls to split a single pickup (you add the push pulls), you can cover a lot of ground.

Silo special HSS if you need single coil tones.

If you're a humbucker guy go Reflex/25th. It can't be beat.

But of course it's all in the fingers. Play as many models as toucan and see which suits your needs. Good luck. Hope it's a reflex. :)

Thanks for all the info everyone. Gives me a good starting point. Once I sell my Am. Deluxe Strat, I'm going to try to make some trips to some guitar stores to check out as many as possible so I can get a feel for the different options. Just wished I didn't live out in the middle of nowhere in Ohio lol. Hard to find good dealers anymore.

Thanks for the welcome. Music Man just makes too many good options that I'm interested in lol. I've got narrowed down to three that I really want to try. The Steve Morse model ( both of em ), the reflex/25th anniv. , or the HH AL model.

It's a really tricky one to try and pick from the line. What is it that's put you off the silhouette and Luke?

Don't forget that there's also the Luke 3 appearing soon.

I'm not making this easier am I?

I really dig the tone from that vid.

Jimmyb- I still plan on trying the Silhouette, nothing really about it turned me off or anything. The main thing I didn't like about the Luke was the active EMGs. I haven't had any experience with that particular set and would definitely give that guitar a try if I came across it, but I've heard mixed opinions about those pickups. I acquired a strat in trade a few months back that has the EMG Gilmour setup and I'm not quite hooked on it.

and I didn't know anything about the Luke 3 until just now lol.
