Well my sig says it all really. I only know me some times. I know if I want to make it work I will and if I don't then it won't.

If it doesn't then go the other way or call customer serivice and send me the bill for the call. They do know more than I do. I just told ya what I feel I would do.

My Bongo kicks butt and the b string isn't a big deal. It did however sound much like yours did when I got it from Jack. I doubt not that it sounded great in texas.

I am in kansas.

I cranked on the truss rod this morning, we'll see the results when I get home from work. There was probably like 0.009" of relief in the neck, I only made a small adjustment, so I guess it will pretty much be flat or itty-bitty relief.

I'm not complaining, I thought it sounded better when I lower the pickup, though the tone seemed to loose some balls. I just need to fool with gain structure, etc.

My last suggestion was to add some more relief. Needs more relief when it sounds like that on the nut side of things.

Of course once again I could be wrong as I am not playing it. :)

The second clip is definitely an improvement. Im not sure taking out relief is what you should be doing. Id be adding a bit, or leaving it alone.

Yeah, I'm a bit thick at times, I understand now. I'll make that change later this evening :)

Okay my take. It sounds like the frets nearest the nut are not right. The rest sounded okay to me.

By back I mean one hole more relief in the neck. Counter clockwise turn of the wheel.

heheh wait, that's what I did. I turned the wheel counter clockwise. You got me all messed up here :) Ok, I should be good to go then!

FWIW the change won't take very long to happen. I am betting Jon doesn't spend two days on a setup. :)

Once you have it figured out it will stick with you for a lifetime so it is worth the time invested.

Yeah, I figured it was pretty much instant, or at the very most an hour or two. I just taking so long because I have a day job and a night job (aka the family, two young kids :D )

Edit: I found Rod's old post, very helpful. The relief is somewhere between a sheet of paper and a business card, that seems to work fine. The string height was all off, so I set it to 3/32" at the 17th fret, and set the pickups back to around 8/32" and 6/32" for the neck/bridge. Will have to set intonation later, but I think this will work out nice. Playing along with a CD sounded great, perhaps a bit off (intonation heheh).

I am glad you got it like you want. Now go gig and have some fun. Or just play in the bedroom and have fun. When the Bongo is right it is the most awesome sound I have ever heard out of a bass.

Not that what I say matters as I am about as hack as they come around here.
